Hong De Temple Introduction
Situated in Lane 303 of Zhongzheng First Road, Hongde Temple is a small yet exquisite and luxurious temple, which embodies the meaning of 'promoting martial virtue'. It is known among the locals as the Sun Bin Temple and is the first Sun Bin Temple in Taiwan. The main deity worshipped here is Sun Bin, who fought against Pang Juan during the Warring States period, and he is a descendant of Sun Wu, the author of "The Art of War". Since the third day of the Lunar New Year is Sun Bin's birthday, the temple holds grand ceremonies annually from the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, attracting many devotees who specifically charter vehicles to come and pay their respects. The Sun Bin Temple was built in the sixth year of the Taisho era (1917) and, besides the main deity Sun Bin, it also includes other deities such as Wang Chan Laozu (Guiguzi), Nanji Xianweng, Daozu of the Three Purities, Jiutian Shengdi, and Hua Tuo Zhenren.
