Huliao Pond Introduction
When visiting Pinglin, in addition to buying tea and enjoying tea meals, you might as well venture into the mountains and walk up the suspension bridge to admire the dogtooth topography of Huliaotan. The dogtooth topography is formed due to the compressive forces causing the layers to tilt and rise. Under the erosion of the Beishi River, the fragile shale crumbles, leaving behind jagged sandstone resembling dog teeth, hence the name. With the construction of the Feitsui Reservoir upstream in the Beishi River, many dogtooth formations have been submerged. However, by approaching Huliaotan and standing on the Huliaotan Suspension Bridge, you can still enjoy the magnificent view of the dogtooth topography.
