Lion's Head Mountain Trail Introduction
Shigongjiwei Mountain, located at the junction of Pingxi, Pinglin, and Shiding Districts in New Taipei City, is the source of the Keelung River, Beishi River, and Xindian River. Its name derives from the shape of the mountain resembling the hairstyle of a Taoist priest (in Taiwanese, Shigong). It is also known as Huoshaoliao Mountain and is the highest peak in the Shiding Mountain Range. Most visitors start their journey from the historic Nanshan Temple (commonly known as Xiangong Temple), where they can enjoy views of the sea of clouds, tea plantations, and the large tongue lake. Following the winding industrial road leads to the trailhead, allowing an easy ascent to Shigongjiwei Mountain, which offers a 360-degree panorama of the beautiful scenery including Pinglin, Jiufen, Shuangxi Peaks, and Beishi River. In another direction, one can enjoy distant views of the Emperor's Hall, Qixingshan, Datun Mountain, Guanyin Mountain, and Taipei 101. It is suitable for hiking, sunrise watching, night views, and appreciating autumn pampas grass, making it a scenic trail suitable for all ages.
