Shigong Jitai Mountain Trail Introduction
Lion's Tail Mountain, located at the intersection of Pingxi, Pinglin, and Shiding districts in New Taipei City, is the source of Keelung River, Beishi River, and Xindian River. Its name comes from its shape resembling a Daoist priest's hair bun (pronounced as "shigong" in Taiwanese). It is also known as Huoshaoliao Mountain and is the highest peak in the Shiding Mountain Range. Many people typically start from the historic Nanshan Temple (commonly known as Xian Gong Temple), where they can enjoy the scenic views of sea of clouds, tea plantations, and Dazhu Lake. By following the winding industrial roads, one can reach the mountain's trailhead and easily ascend Lion's Tail Mountain, which offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Pinglin, Jiufen, Shuangxi peaks, and Beishi River. From another direction, it provides distant views of Emperor's Palace, Qixing Mountain, Datun Mountain, Guanyin Mountain, and Taipei 101. It is suitable for hiking, watching sunrises, enjoying night views, and admiring the autumn silver grass, making it a landscape trail suitable for all ages.
