Thirteen Layers Water Park (Sandiao Water Park) Introduction
Shisanling Riverside Park is located in the high floodplain of the Mudan River's midstream, established by the Shuangxi District office in 2005, also known as Sandiao Riverside Park. Surrounded by lush mountains and forests, the area is vibrant with greenery, complemented by blue skies and white clouds along with a gentle breeze, creating a refreshing atmosphere. The park features flowing streams and verdant grasses, with terraced farmland and scattered houses nearby, providing a simple and elegant retreat. The rich aquatic ecosystem in the park hosts cold springs upstream, maintaining a constant temperature throughout the year, attracting many visitors to cool off during the hot summer months. Under the fish protection policy, the Mudan River nurtures a diverse range of aquatic life, including fish such as bitterlings, stream gobies, and stone perch, while numerous dragonflies are seen resting on the rocks in the creek. The New Taipei City Tourism Bureau has improved the existing stone pathways with low-impact environmental methods and permeable paving to create an accessible walking environment, fostering a recreational space that accommodates both ecology and all-age usage. The resting point of Shisanling Riverside Park is 500 meters north of the Danshanc Ancient Road, which leads to the trailheads of Diaoshan Ancient Road and Canguangliao Ancient Road. The Diaoshan Ancient Road was an important route for ancestors traveling between Jiufen and Jinguashi. In 1898, gold was discovered in the area, leading to a rush of miners, and Mudan once became a bustling mining town. Walking 600 meters south from the riverside park will reach the Jin Zibi Ancient Road trailhead, where visitors can explore the gold inscription left by Taiwan's general Liu Mingdeng, which leads all the way to Houtong Station.
