Shihsan Park (Sandiao Water Park) Introduction
Shisanheng Riverside Park is located on a high flatland in the middle reaches of the Mudu River, established by the Shuangxi District Office in 2005. It is also known as Sandiao Riverside Park. Surrounded by lush green mountains and trees, the park offers a refreshing environment complemented by blue skies, white clouds, and gentle breezes. Within the park, the creek flows gently, with green grass and terraced fields beside it, along with scattered rural houses, creating a simple and elegant atmosphere that is perfect for serene relaxation. The rich aquatic ecology nearby features cold springs with constant temperatures, attracting many visitors during the hot summer months to enjoy a cool dip. Under the policy of protecting fish by closing the creek, the Mudu River nurtures a rich variety of aquatic life, including fish such as bitterling, loach, and stone moroko, as well as many damselflies resting on the rocks in the stream. The New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Bureau has improved the existing slate roads in a low-impact manner, using permeable pavement to create an accessible environment that fosters an ecological and all-age friendly recreational space. Walking north for 500 meters from Shisanheng Riverside Park, located along the Dalan Ancient Road North, leads to the trailheads of the Diao Mountain Ancient Road and Canguangliao Ancient Road. The Diao Mountain Ancient Road was a vital passageway for early settlers traveling between Jiufen and Jinguashi. In 1898, gold mines were discovered in this area, which attracted many miners, making Mudu a prosperous mining town for a time. Walking south for 600 meters from the riverside park leads to the trailhead of the Jinzibi Ancient Road, where visitors can explore the Jinzibi left by Liu Mingdeng, the General of Taiwan, and continue their journey to Houchong Station.
