Shihsan Water Park (Sandyou Water Park) Introduction
The Shihsan Water Park is located on the high beach of the Mudan River in the midstream area, established by the Shuangxi District Office in 2005. It is also known as the Sandiao Water Park. Surrounded by lush mountains and greenery, with clear blue skies and white clouds accompanied by a gentle breeze, it provides a refreshing experience. Inside the water park, the stream flows gently, the grass is green, and there are terraced farmland and scattered houses nearby, creating a simple and elegant atmosphere, making it a great spot for tranquility. The rich aquatic ecology of the water park features cold springs nearby, which maintain a constant temperature year-round. Through word of mouth, many visitors come here to enjoy water activities during the hot summer months. Under the policy of stream closure and fish protection, the Mudan River nurtures a rich array of aquatic life, including various fish species like bitterling, stream loach, and stone grimace, which also attracts numerous damselflies resting on the rocks in the stream. The New Taipei City Tourism Bureau has improved the current situation by paving the stone roads with permeable materials in a low-interference environment, creating a recreational space that combines ecology and accessibility for people of all ages. The rest area at Shihsan Water Park, located on the old Danshui-Tamsui North Road, is just 500 meters north of where the Diaoshan Old Trail and Canguangliao Old Trail trailheads are located. The Diaoshan Old Trail was a vital path for ancestors traveling between Jiufen and Jinguashih areas. In 1898, gold mines were discovered here, which attracted a rush of miners, turning Mudan into a once prosperous mining town. Continuing south from the water park for 600 meters will lead to the Jinzipi Old Trail trailhead, where you can explore the stele left by the Taiwanese garrison Liu Mingdeng, which leads all the way to the Houtong Railway Station.
