Nantian Temple was established in 1952, with the main hall completed in 1953, and is dedicated to the worship of Guan Di (God of War). At that time, it was the largest Guan Di temple in Taichung City. In 1980, a six-story, 146-meter tall statue of the Holy Emperor was built. Completed in 1984, this towering statue, which reaches into the clouds, has become a landmark of Nantian Temple.

Nantian Temple currently has six floors, each dedicated to various deities including: Confucius, General Yue Fei, the God of Wealth, the Earth God, Old Man Under the Moon, Wenchang Dijun, Ma Zu, the Goddess of Childbirth, Guanyin, Baosheng Dadi, Yuhuang Dadi, the Southern Dipper Star Lord, the Northern Dipper Star Lord, Fuyou Dijun, Xuantian Shangdi, and Tianguan Dadi. From the sixth floor, one can overlook the streets of the East District of Taichung, providing a refreshing sense of tranquility.
