The "Taichung Metropolitan Area Railway Elevated MRT Project" has undergone years of advocacy, planning, and construction. With strong cooperation between the central and local governments, Taiwan Railways trains have been rerouted to run on elevated bridges, with the elevated stations being simultaneously put into operation. The railway project in the Taichung metropolitan area starts 1.9 kilometers north of Fengyuan Station and extends 1.4 kilometers south of Daqing Station, covering a total length of 21.7 kilometers. In addition to the existing five stations being transformed into elevated stations, five more elevated commuter stations have been added: Liling, Toujiacuo, Songzhu, Jingwu, and Wuchuan. Among them, Daqing and Songzhu stations are interchange stations for the Taichung Metro Green Line, integrating the rail transport network and showcasing a new look for the century-old railway.
