The Taichung Metropolitan Area Railway Elevated Mass Rapid Transit Plan has undergone years of advocacy, planning, and construction. With close cooperation between the central and local governments, Taiwan Railways trains have been rerouted to run on an elevated bridge, with elevated stations simultaneously put into operation. The Taichung Metropolitan Area Railway Elevation starts 1.9 kilometers north of Fengyuan Station and extends to 1.4 kilometers south of Daqing Station, with a total length of 21.7 kilometers. In addition to renovating 5 existing stations into elevated stations, 5 new elevated commuter stations have been added: Lulin, Toujiacuo, Songzhu, Jingwu, and Wujuan. Both Daqing and Songzhu stations are interchanged with the Taichung Metro Green Line, integrating the rail transport network and presenting a new look for the century-old railway.
