Mangrove Ecosystem Area Introduction
The coastal estuary sandbar area of western Taiwan is home to many mangrove forests, which play a crucial role in regulating salinity, preventing flooding, and maintaining ecological diversity. The mangrove forest located at the Wunliao River estuary in Daan District, Taichung, is also a significant mangrove area. Here, the mangrove plant species is exclusively Kandelia obovata, which is artificially planted, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding it are reeds and in the northern sandy beach, there are artificial windbreak forests of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, along with accompanying plants such as Derris trifoliata, Imperata cylindrica, and Setaria italica.
