The coastal estuary and sandbar areas along the western coast of Taiwan are home to many mangrove forests, which play important roles in regulating salinity, flood prevention, and maintaining ecological diversity. The mangrove forest at the mouth of the Wenliao River in the Daan District of Taichung is also a significant mangrove area. The mangrove plants here consist solely of the Avicennia marina, which is artificially planted, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding it are reed wetlands, while the northern beach features artificial windbreak forests made up of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, along with associated plants such as Derris trifoliate, Spartina alterniflora, and Miscanthus floridulus.

Mangrove Ecological Area Introduction

In the Daan Mangrove Area, there is the Daan Ecological Education Park, located by a pond on the southern bank of the Wenliou Creek. The Daan Water Shield, a rare and precious plant endemic to Taiwan, can be found here, with a relatively small population that deserves protection and restoration. In the Wenliou Mangrove, visitors can observe mangrove plants, white and red-fingered crabs, mudskippers, little egrets, and yellow-headed egrets. Thus, this location offers opportunities to enjoy tree watching, bird watching, crab observation, and other nature-related activities. Additionally, approximately 600 meters to the north of the mangrove ecological area lies the well-known seawater bath, "Daan Seaside Park."
