The coastal sandy area at the estuaries along the western part of Taiwan is home to many mangroves, which play important roles in salinity regulation, flood prevention, and maintaining ecological diversity. The mangrove area at the estuary of Wenliao Creek in Daan District, Taichung is also a significant mangrove region. The only mangrove plant found here is the Avicennia marina, which is artificially planted and covers an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding the area are reed marshes, and on the northern beach, there are artificial windbreak forests consisting of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, along with associated plants such as Derris trifoliata, Bolboschoenus maritimus, and Miscanthus floridulus.

Mangrove Ecosystem Area Introduction

At the Daan Wenchiliao Mangrove area, there is the Daan Ecological Education Park, situated in a pond on the southern bank of the Wenchiliao Creek. The Daan Water Snowflake, a precious and rare plant endemic to Taiwan, is found in this area and is quite scarce, making it worthy of protection and restoration. In the Wenchiliao Mangrove, one can observe mangrove plants, white-clawed crabs, arc-edged crabs, mudskippers, little egrets, and yellow-headed egrets. Therefore, visitors can enjoy tree watching, bird watching, and crab observation, all while engaging in nature-related activities. Additionally, about 600 meters to the north of the mangrove ecological area lies the well-known seaside bathing spot in central Taiwan, "Daan Seaside Park."
