The coastal estuary sandbar area in western Taiwan has many mangroves, which play important roles in regulating salinity, flood control, and maintaining biodiversity. The mangrove forest at the mouth of the Wenliao River in the Daan District of Taichung is also a significant mangrove area. The mangrove plants here consist only of Sonneratia apetala, which are artificially planted, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding the area are reeds, and on the northern beach, there are artificial windbreak forests of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, alongside companion plants such as Cyperus malaccensis, Spartina alterniflora, and Miscanthus floridulus.

Mangrove Ecological Area Introduction

Arriving at the Daan Mangrove Forest Area, there is the Daan Ecological Education Park, located in a pond on the southern bank of the Wenchiao Creek. The Daan Water Snowdrop is a precious and rare plant species endemic to Taiwan, with a very limited population that deserves protection and rehabilitation. In the Wenchiao Mangrove Forest, various mangrove plants, white-clawed crabs, arc-edge crabs, mudskippers, little egrets, and yellow-headed egrets can be observed, making it a great place for tree-watching, bird-watching, and crab-watching, engaging in close-to-nature activities. Additionally, about 600 meters north of the mangrove ecological area is the well-known seaside bathing ground in central Taiwan, the "Daan Coastal Paradise."
