The coastal estuarine sandy area along the western coast of Taiwan is home to many mangroves, which play crucial roles in regulating salinity, flood control, and maintaining ecological diversity. The mangrove forest at the estuary of Wenliao Creek, located in the Daan District of Taichung, is also a significant mangrove area. The only mangrove species here is Avicennia marina, which is artificially planted, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding it are reed wetlands, while the northern beach features artificial windbreak forests of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, along with accompanying plants such as Mikania micrantha, Spartina alterniflora, and Miscanthus sinensis.

Mangrove Ecological Zone Introduction

In the Daan Mangrove Area, there is the Daan Ecological Education Park, located on the south bank of the Wenshan Creek in a pond. The Daan Water Umbrella, a rare and valuable plant species endemic to Taiwan, is found in this area and is quite scarce, making it worthy of protection and rehabilitation. In the Wenshan Mangrove, you can observe mangrove plants, white and black fiddler crabs, mudskippers, little egrets, and yellow-crowned egrets, allowing for simultaneous activities such as tree and bird watching as well as crab observation, all closely connected to nature. Additionally, about 600 meters north of the mangrove ecological area is the well-known seaside bathing spot in central Taiwan, "Daan Seaside Park."
