Qigu Lagoon Introduction

Locally known as "Neihai Tsai," this is a remnant of the Tainan Inner Sea over 300 years old, covering an area of approximately 1,600 hectares. Riding a bamboo raft to explore the Sihhu Lagoon is the best way to experience it, with multiple boatmen available to choose from. The journey is filled with oyster farms, fixed fishing nets, and leisurely anglers in small boats, offering a rich view of the lagoon's ecology. The surrounding mangroves are home to many white egrets and fiddler crabs, and there is also a special waterbird, the cormorant. Although it is a waterbird, its feathers are not water-resistant, so each time it dives for fish, it must sunbathe on the oyster racks to dry its feathers before hunting again, showcasing a fascinating ecological behavior.
