Liu Kong Wharf Introduction
At Liukong Pier, visitors can board fishing rafts to enjoy a leisurely tour of the lagoon. If you want to get closer to the lagoon, riding a sightseeing fishing raft is one of the most popular tourist activities in Qigu in recent years. Liukong Pier serves as a small dock for tourists to take bamboo rafts to explore the lagoon. Visitors can also ride inflatable rafts during suitable tidal times, which can be inquired about with boat operators or local accommodations. Along the way, you can admire oyster farms, fixed fishing nets, and stroll along the sandbars. On clear days, you can also enjoy the beautiful sunset over the lagoon. If you encounter a friendly sightseeing raft captain, they might even offer grilled oysters and milkfish for visitors to taste on board. The lagoon is filled with oyster racks and fishing areas marked by bamboo stakes, where fishermen operate sightseeing fishing rafts with ease, much like driving a car. While rows of bamboo stakes look identical, the fishermen can easily identify which area belongs to whom. Sometimes fishermen will demonstrate how to operate fixed nets on the spot. While traversing this waterway, you will frequently see rows of low oyster racks. Due to stable water flow and clean seawater, the oysters cultivated here are renowned local specialties. Occasionally, you can see oyster farmers harvesting oysters and fishing enthusiasts enjoying time fishing with hooks. After about 20 minutes of sailing on the sightseeing fishing raft, you will arrive at the sandbar. In addition to angular crabs and fiddler crabs, the large rows of casuarina trees flanking the sides are the favorite habitat of the egrets, where you might occasionally spot nests of several migratory birds, including hungry chicks. In the evening, you can witness adult birds returning to their nests. For more information, please contact the Liukong Management Station and Visitor Center of Taijiang National Park at 06-788-0220.
