Liukong Pier Introduction
At Liukong Wharf, you can board a fishing raft and leisurely explore the lagoon. If you want to be even closer to the lagoon, taking a sightseeing fishing raft has become one of the most popular ways to travel in Qigu in recent years. Liukong Wharf is a small dock where visitors can take bamboo rafts to navigate the lagoon. Not only can you ride a rubber raft around the lagoon (you can inquire about the suitable tidal times from the boat operators or local accommodations), but you can also enjoy views of oyster farms, fixed fishing nets, and sandy shoals along the way. If the weather is clear, you can admire the beautiful sunset over the lagoon. If you encounter a friendly sightseeing raft captain, you may even get to taste grilled oysters and milkfish on board. The lagoon is dotted with oyster farms and fishing grounds marked by bamboo stakes, where fishermen maneuver the sightseeing rafts with ease, much like driving a car. Each row of bamboo stakes looks similar, but the fishermen clearly know whose fishing ground it is. Occasionally, fishermen demonstrate how to operate fixed nets on the spot. As you navigate through these waters, you will often see rows of low oyster racks; due to the stable water flow and clean seawater, the oysters produced here are considered the local specialty. You can often witness oyster farmers harvesting oysters, as well as anglers leisurely fishing with their rods. After about 20 minutes of travel on the sightseeing raft, you will reach the sandy shoals. In addition to fiddler crabs and mud crabs, the extensive Casuarina windbreaks on both sides are a favorite habitat for egrets. Occasionally, you can spot nests of various migratory birds, and even chicks waiting to be fed. In the evening, you may see adult birds returning to their nests.
