Liu Kong Wharf Introduction
At Liukou Harbor, you can board a fishing raft and experience the lagoon leisurely. Want to get even closer to the lagoon? Taking a sightseeing fishing raft has become one of the most popular ways to tour Chigu in recent years. Liukou Harbor is a small dock where tourists can embark on bamboo rafts to explore the lagoon. You can also take inflatable rafts to navigate the lagoon (you can inquire about suitable tidal times from the boat operator or local accommodations), enjoying views of oyster farms, fixed nets, and the sandy shoals along the way. If the weather is clear, you can also catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunset over the lagoon. If you meet a friendly sightseeing fishing raft captain, they might even barbecue oysters and milkfish for you to taste on board. The lagoon is dotted with oyster racks and fishing areas enclosed by bamboo poles, where fishermen operate sightseeing fishing rafts, maneuvering through the waters as easily as driving a car. Rows of bamboo pole fences look the same, but the fishermen are well aware of whose fishing areas they belong to. Occasionally, fishermen demonstrate how to operate fixed nets right on the spot. As you move through this waterway, the most common sight is the rows of low oyster racks. Due to the stable water flow and clean seawater, the oysters cultivated here are considered one of the local specialties. You can often see oyster farmers harvesting oysters, and anglers leisurely fishing. A boat ride of about 20 minutes will take you to the sandy shoals. Besides fiddler crabs and hermit crabs, the large casuarina windbreaks on both sides provide a favored habitat for herons. Occasionally, you can spot various migratory birds' nests, even with nestlings waiting to be fed. In the evening, you can observe the adult birds returning to their nests.
