Liu Kong Pier Introduction
At Liukou Pier, take a fishing raft and enjoy a leisurely trip in the lagoon. Want to get even closer to the lagoon? Taking a sightseeing fishing raft has become the most popular way to tour Qigu in recent years. Liukou Pier is a small pier for tourists to board bamboo rafts to explore the lagoon. Visitors can ride rubber rafts (the appropriate tidal times can be inquired from the boat operators or local accommodations), appreciating the oyster farms, fixed fishing nets, and wandering around the sandbars. On sunny days, you can also enjoy the beauty of the lagoon's sunset glow. If you encounter a friendly sightseeing fishing raft captain, they might grill oysters and milkfish for tourists to taste on board. The lagoon is dotted with oyster racks and fishing grounds enclosed by bamboo stakes, where fishermen maneuver the sightseeing fishing rafts with ease, much like driving a car. Although the rows of bamboo stake fences look identical, the fishermen are quite aware of whose fishing ground it is. Sometimes, fishermen will demonstrate how to operate the fixed nets right on the spot. As you navigate through these waters, you'll frequently see rows of low oyster racks, which produce some of the local specialties due to the stable water flow and clean seawater. Occasionally, you can witness oyster farmers harvesting oysters, and fishing enthusiasts leisurely dropping their lines. After about 20 minutes on the sightseeing fishing raft, you'll reach the sandbar. In addition to fiddler crabs and tide pool crabs, the large rows of Casuarina trees on both sides provide the perfect habitat for egret birds. Occasionally, you can spot nests of several migratory birds, including egrets, with chicks waiting to be fed. In the evening, you can see the adult birds returning to their nests.
