Liukou Wharf Introduction
At Liukong Pier, visitors can take fishing rafts to explore the lagoon and enjoy a leisurely experience. Want to get closer to the lagoon? Taking a sightseeing fishing raft has become one of the most popular tourist activities in Qigu in recent years. Liukong Pier serves as a small pier for tourists to board bamboo rafts and sail through the lagoon. Tourists can also ride inflatable rafts (for suitable tidal times, please inquire with the boat operators or local accommodations), while admiring the oyster farms, fixed fishing nets, and exploring the sandbanks along the way. On clear days, visitors can enjoy the beautiful sunset over the lagoon. If you happen to be with a friendly sightseeing fishing raft captain, they might even grill oysters and tilapia for guests to sample. The lagoon is dotted with oyster farms and fishing areas enclosed by bamboo poles, and fishermen maneuver the sightseeing fishing rafts through these areas with ease, much like driving a car. The rows of bamboo pole enclosures may look identical, but fishermen know precisely which area belongs to whom. Sometimes, the fishermen will demonstrate how to operate fixed nets on the spot. As you navigate through these waters, the most commonly seen feature is the rows of low oyster racks. Due to the stable water flow and clean seawater, the oysters cultivated here are among the area’s most famous specialties. Occasionally, you can see oyster farmers harvesting oysters, and anglers can be seen leisurely fishing. A 20-minute journey on the sightseeing fishing raft will bring you to the sandbanks, where in addition to fiddler crabs and hermit crabs, the large rows of Casuarina trees act as a habitat for herons, which are often seen nesting, occasionally with chicks waiting to be fed. In the evenings, you can witness the adult birds returning to their nests. For more details, please contact the Liukong Management Station and Visitor Center of Taijiang National Park at 06-788-0220.
