Six Holes Wharf Introduction
At Liukong Pier, visitors can take a fishing raft to leisurely explore the lagoon up close. The sightseeing fishing raft has become one of the most popular ways to travel in Qigu in recent years. Liukong Pier is a small dock where tourists can board bamboo rafts to navigate the lagoon. Visitors can enjoy the scenery of oyster farms, fixed nets, and sandy shores while riding the inflatable rafts (the suitable tidal times can be inquired from the boat owners or accommodations). If the weather is clear, they can also admire the beautiful sunset over the lagoon. If you meet a friendly sightseeing fishing raft captain, they might even grill oysters and milkfish for visitors to taste on board. The lagoon is dotted with oyster beds and fishing grounds marked by bamboo poles, where fishermen operate sightseeing fishing rafts with ease, almost like driving a car. Although the rows of bamboo pole enclosures look identical, the fishermen know exactly whose fishing ground it is. Sometimes, the fishermen will demonstrate how to operate the fixed nets right on the spot. As you travel through this waterway, you will often see rows of low oyster racks. Due to the stable water flow and clean seawater, the oysters grown here are among the local specialties. Occasionally, you can witness oyster farmers harvesting oysters and fishing enthusiasts leisurely fishing. It takes about 20 minutes by sightseeing fishing raft to reach the sandy shoals, where, besides the fiddler crabs and mud crabs, the expansive casuarina windbreaks on either side serve as a favorite habitat for egrets. Occasionally, you might spot nests of several migratory birds, and even hear the chirping of hungry chicks. In the evening, you can see adult birds returning to their nests.
