Kaohsiung Attractions

Liuyishan Trail Introduction

Liugui Mountain stands at an elevation of approximately 784 meters and is part of the Alishan Mountain Range, specifically the Wuyan Mountain System. It serves as the boundary between Jiasian in Kaohsiung and Nanhua in Tainan. During the Japanese occupation, it became a popular hiking route. The trail is developed along the ridge and is modeled after the ancient paths from the Japanese colonial period, using natural ecological techniques to create a wooden-patterned plank road surface, with a total length of about 4.35 kilometers. There are four trail entrances from north to south: Sude, Gongguan, Baiye, and Zixia entrances, and the one-way trek takes approximately 3 hours. The trail boasts a rich variety of tree species, and different flowering plants can be seen in different seasons, especially in winter when plum trees are in full bloom, filling the air with fragrance and creating a beautiful and dreamy landscape. To the west, east, and south, visitors can enjoy views of the Nanhua Reservoir, the Central Mountain Range, and the Alishan Wuyan Mountain System, offering a broad perspective that is particularly suitable for viewing sunsets. Along the way, there are several attractions including a lakeside observation platform, a plum viewing platform, the Liugui Mountain monument at the triangulation station, the Yako viewing platform, and the Guanba Pavilion. It has been designated as a national-level healthy trail by the Forestry Bureau.
