Liuyishan Hiking Trail Introduction

Liuyishan, with an elevation of approximately 784 meters, belongs to the Alishan mountain range's Wuyun system. It serves as the boundary mountain between Jiaxian, Kaohsiung, and Nanhua, Tainan, and has been a popular hiking route since the Japanese colonial period. The trail is developed along the ridge and is a restored path from the Japanese era, using natural ecological engineering methods to create a wood-patterned pile surface, with a total length of about 4.35 kilometers. There are four hiking entrances, from north to south: Side De, Gongguan, Baiye, and Zixia entrances; the one-way hike takes about 3 hours. Along the trail, there is a rich diversity of tree species, with different flowering plants each season, especially in winter when the plum trees bloom, exuding a fragrant and dreamlike beauty. From the west, east, and south directions, one can overlook the Nanhua Reservoir, Central Mountain Range, and Alishan Wuyun system, providing a broad view that is perfect for enjoying sunsets. Along the way, there are several attractions such as lake observation platforms, plum viewing platforms, the Liuyishan memorial monument, Yakou viewing platform, and Guanba Pavilion. It has been recognized by the Forestry Bureau as a national-level healthy trail.
