Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center Introduction

Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center, located in Dashu District, Kaohsiung City, is an important landmark that combines Buddhist culture, historical heritage, and modern architectural art. Since its completion in 2011, it has become a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhist believers and cultural enthusiasts worldwide. It is a formal member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and has received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for six consecutive years from 2014, earning a place in the "Hall of Fame." The construction of the Buddha Memorial Center originated from Master Hsing Yun's vow to return the "True Body Relic of the Buddha" from India to Taiwan, with the hope of spreading the wisdom of Buddhism through this solemn Buddhist temple. This site is not only a religious sanctuary but also a diverse platform for promoting Buddhist culture, art, and education, allowing everyone to experience inner peace and inspiration. Approaching the memorial center via the Buddha Road and the seated Buddha, visitors are greeted by a 240-meter-long Buddha Road, flanked by eight pagodas symbolizing the "Noble Eightfold Path," guiding travelers into the path of practice, calming the mind, and experiencing the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism. The bronze seated Buddha, standing behind the memorial center, is 50 meters tall and, including its base, measures a total of 108 meters, equivalent to a 36-story building, making it the largest bronze seated Buddha in Asia. The Buddha's compassionate and solemn expression symbolizes the boundless love of the Dharma, protecting humanity and inspiring goodwill and wisdom. The treasure of the center is the True Body Relic of the Buddha, one of only three in existence worldwide, making it exceedingly precious. This relic was brought back to Taiwan by Master Hsing Yun in 1998 and enshrined in the memorial center in 2011 for devotees to pay homage. The relic enshrined in Fo Guang Shan is not only a treasure of the Buddhist world but also an invaluable cultural heritage. The Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center aims not only to promote the Dharma but also to help the public find inner peace and wisdom in a solemn and tranquil space. Adhering to the principles of Humanistic Buddhism, Master Hsing Yun advocates the "Three Good Deeds Movement"—doing good deeds, speaking good words, and having good intentions, encouraging people to embody the spirit of the Dharma in everyday life, making the world more harmonious and beautiful through good thoughts. Whether one seeks spiritual tranquility or wishes to explore the profound essence of Buddhist culture, the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center is a treasure worth visiting in person. ▶ Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center Transportation Information
