Shoutiangu Temple Introduction
Shoutian Temple is the most popular temple in the Gangshan District, located to the north of Zhongshan Park on Gongyuan Road. Established in the 51st year of the Kangxi reign, devotees have been coming from Tainan's Tianhou Temple to Gangshan for hundreds of years. The temple's architecture is magnificent, featuring a South China-style three-story palace design, with beautifully elegant swallow-tail and cut-tile roof shapes. The interior of the temple is ornate and exquisite, showcasing the painted works of renowned artist Pan Lishui. Both the architecture and art are remarkable. The main hall enshrines the Queen of Heaven and also houses statues of Guanyin, the Jade Emperor, and the God of Wealth. Due to its long history, Shoutian Temple possesses numerous historical artifacts, such as the A-Kong-Dian public fighting tool, the stone inscription of the embankment, and stone lions, stone lanterns, and palanquins from the Japanese colonial period. Outside the temple, it integrates with Zhongshan Park's pavilions and ponds, creating a pleasant scenery. Shoutian Temple is the center of faith for the people of Gangshan and is worth repeated visits for its traditional architectural aesthetics and historical artifacts.
