Shoutian Temple Introduction
Shoutian Temple is the most popular temple in the Gangshan District, located north of Zhongshan Park on Gongyuan Road. Established in the 51st year of the Kangxi Era, it has a history of several hundred years, with devotees coming from Tainan's Tianhou Temple to Gangshan. The architecture of Shoutian Temple is magnificent, featuring a South Chinese-style three-tiered palace design, with beautifully shaped gable roofs and intricate interior decorations, including colorful paintings by renowned artist Pan Lishui. Both the architecture and the art are highly remarkable. The main hall enshrines the Empress of Heaven, along with offerings to Guanyin, the Jade Emperor, and the Earth God. Due to its long history, Shoutian Temple possesses numerous historical artifacts, such as the bagua (eight trigrams) from the grandparent store and the stone tablet of the embankment sequence, as well as stone lions, stone lanterns, and religious palanquins from the Japanese colonial period. Outside the temple, it integrates with the pavilions and ponds of Zhongshan Park, creating a pleasant scenery. Shoutian Temple serves as a center of faith for the people of Gangshan and is worth visiting repeatedly for its traditional architectural aesthetics and cultural relics.
