Zhu Wan Zicai Reef Introduction
The Zicai Reef is located on the coast northwest of Zhuawan Village, featuring many unique geological formations. In addition to sea eroded gullies and sea eroded platforms, the area is characterized by its continuous and spectacular basalt columns, as well as the north-south oriented elongated reef beneath the columns; the reef extends deep into the ocean, constantly battered by waves, resulting in a rich harvest of nori, hence the name Zicai Reef, which is the natural nori production area of Zhuawan. Zicai Reef is a public resource of Zhuawan, and the harvesting rights are publicly auctioned every September, awarded to the highest bidder. The harvesting period lasts from the auction date in September of each year until April of the following year. During the harvesting period, villagers who did not win the bidding may collect nori as fishing bait, but they cannot take the nori away; the harvesting rights belong to the winning bidder. Wild nori grows on the reefs washed by the waves on the sea surface, and its breeding season is in the cold winter, with its quality greatly affected by the climate. The best growth environment for nori is on the sea eroded platforms with little sunlight and occasional wave impacts. An ancient saying states, "When the waves are strong, the yield is abundant; when the waves are calm, the yield is scarce," which perfectly describes the growth of wild nori. Zhuawan Nori Reef is a local secret spot with high privacy. When heading to Xiaomen Village, a junction will appear about two hundred meters from the Xiaomen Bridge. Following the winding path through the pastures will lead to Zhuawan Nori Reef. What comes into view is a reddish-brown quartz sandstone layer rich in iron, exposed by rainwater washing. There is a pavilion nearby, which not only provides a resting place for villagers and tourists but also allows for a scenic view from the top, where one can see the beautiful horizon of the sky merging with the sea, the deep blue sky, the vast ocean, and the embedded Zicai Reef. At the bottom of the slope, there are various weathered and wave-eroded sea erosion platforms and stone steps, with the most striking feature being the row of columnar basalt. Waves crash against them, creating the most beautiful sparks of nature. This area is not only rich in nori but also a great place for wave watching, sunset viewing, shore fishing, and observing various geological formations. [Recommended Stay Time] 1 hour
