Whale Cave (also known as Small Door Whale Cave) Introduction
Xiaomen Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Village, Xiyu Township, Penghu County. Originally, the Whale Cave was a basalt cape, but after being eroded by the northeastern monsoon and continuous wave action, it eventually formed an arch-shaped sea cave that resembles a whale stranded on the beach, thus earning the name "Whale Cave." The area around Xiaomen Whale Cave is characterized by basalt geology, resulting in relatively barren terrain where plants find it difficult to grow. Only cacti have adapted to the environmental conditions here. As you walk along the slope, you can see many cacti thriving despite the barren landscape, with some even blooming beautiful flowers, leaving a deep impression. Near the Whale Gate, you can see the "Beehive Fields" not far away. This unique landscape was developed by the local people in the past to shield plants and crops from the adverse effects of the strong northeastern monsoon in winter. They built beehive fields from basalt stones to protect them from winter winds, making it a distinctive sight.
