The Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Village, Xiyu Township, Penghu County. Originally a basalt cape, the Whale Cave has been significantly eroded by the northeast monsoon and the continuous action of seawater. Over time, this erosion formed a sea cave arch that resembles a whale beached on the shore, hence the name "Whale Cave."

Whale Cave (also known as Small Door Whale Cave) Introduction

The Little Door Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Village, Si-Yu Township, Penghu County. Originally a basalt cape, the Whale Cave has been shaped by long-term exposure to the northeast monsoon and continuous wave erosion, resulting in a marine erosion archway that resembles a whale stranded on the beach. This unique formation is what gives it the name "Whale Cave." The area surrounding the Little Door Whale Cave is characterized by its basalt geological formations, leading to relatively barren terrain where plant growth is challenging. However, cacti have adapted well to this environment. Walking along the slope, visitors can see many cacti thriving despite the harsh conditions, with some even blooming beautiful flowers, leaving a lasting impression. Nearby, visitors can also find the "Beehive Fields." This unique sight was developed by local residents to protect plants and crops from the adverse effects of the strong northeast winter winds. They constructed the beehive fields using blocks of stone to shield against the winter gales, promoting the growth of plants and crops. This practice reflects a unique local adaptation to the environment.
