Whale Cave (Tongxiao Entrance Whale Cave) Introduction
The Little Door Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Village, Xiyu Township, Penghu County. The Whale Cave was originally a basalt cape, but over time, it has been eroded by the northeast monsoon and ocean waves, resulting in an ocean erosion arch that resembles a whale stranded on the beach, thus named "Whale Cave." The area around the Little Door Whale Cave features a landscape composed of basalt geology, which makes the terrain relatively barren, making it difficult for plants to grow here; only cacti have adapted to this environment. Walking along the slope, one can see many cacti thriving despite the poor terrain, with some even blooming beautiful flowers, leaving a deep impression. Near the Whale Gate, one can see the "Honeycomb Fields" not far away. This unique landscape was developed by local residents in the past to protect plants and crops from the adverse effects of the strong northeast winds during winter. They constructed honeycomb fields using basalt rocks to shield against the winter winds, facilitating the growth of plants and crops, making it a very distinctive sight.
