Whale Cave (also known as Small Door Whale Cave) Introduction
Xiaomen Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Village, Xiyu Township, Penghu County. The Whale Cave was originally a basalt headland, but after being subjected to the Northeast Monsoon and continual erosion by seawater, it eventually formed a sea arch that resembles a marine headland due to wave erosion. Its shape looks like a whale stranded on the beach, hence the name "Whale Cave." The area around Xiaomen Whale Cave is characterized by basalt geology, resulting in relatively barren terrain where plant growth is challenging, with only cacti able to adapt to the environment. Walking on the slope, one can see many cacti thriving in the harsh conditions, some even blooming beautiful flowers, leaving a deep impression. Near the Whale Gate, visitors can also see the "Beehive Fields." This unique landscape was developed by local people in the past to protect plants and crops from the harsh winter Northeast Monsoon. They built the beehive fields using stones to shield against the winter winds, facilitating growth of vegetation and crops, creating a very distinctive scenery.
