Xiyuan 29 Fashion Creation Base_Taipei Fashion Museum Introduction
The "Xiyuan 29 Garment Creation Base," located in the culturally rich Wanhua (Monga) district, focuses on cultivating Taiwan's fashion design talents through a tree concept in its design. Previously known as the Taipei Fashion Culture Hall, it now stands as a new landmark for creativity in the fashion industry, complemented by the surrounding Monga Fashion Circle (Dali Fashion Circle). This three-story fashion base features a brick-red exterior, and its overall design revolves around the concept of a "tree," aiming to become a creative tree that absorbs the historical and cultural essence of Wanhua, nurtures Taiwan's fashion design talents, and supports the Monga fashion district. It facilitates collaboration between Monga's business operators and resident designers, establishing exemplary design project partnerships to revitalize Taiwan's garment and fashion design industry, enhance the reputation of Taiwan's brand and design power, and elevate it to an international stage. Collaboration with educational institutions to nurture emerging designers is also a key focus of the Xiyuan 29 Garment Creation Base. Besides offering guided tours for students and teachers from related departments in universities, it has initiated an internship program during the summer to enable students to engage in the operations management of the base and collaborative activities with designers and the Monga fashion circle. This hands-on experience provides insights into the connection between design and marketing, as well as Taiwan's overall apparel industry ecosystem. Additionally, courses on trend analysis and professional exhibitions are planned, introducing new fashion information and contributing to the cultivation of design talent in Taiwan. Entering the first-floor lobby, which is characterized by a pure white color scheme, one can experience a sensory fashion information space, serving as a stage that highlights designers' beautiful works. There's a coffee bar where visitors can leisurely sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee, admire design-centric apparel, read design-related publications, and seek inspiration. On the first floor, there are also exciting videos that provide rich information about the Xiyuan 29 Garment Creation Base, the cultural and historical development of the Monga area, and the personal profiles, creative styles, and works of resident designers. An interactive screen allows visitors to use a Wii-like controller to engage with the content, enhancing their understanding of the designers. The second floor serves as an active workspace for designers, housing their studios and is not open to the public on weekdays. This is the source of creativity, featuring pattern-making spaces and a variety of materials offered free of charge to designers to unleash their creativity and showcase their skills, producing apparel works that can be considered art pieces. Currently, five designers, including Xu Yuzhu, Zeng Weixiang, Gao Shengzhong, Lu Xuezheng, and Shi Yulin, are resident designers. Each year, new and promising fashion designers with international market potential will be selected to join as well. The third floor has spaces suitable for small fashion shows, exhibitions, and lectures, with thick carpeting and curtains that provide good sound insulation. To enable more diverse and dynamic use of the space, there are tracks above the ceiling that allow movable partitions to create the required areas. The layout of the tracks is designed to resemble the street map of the Monga area. The backstage of the exhibition space includes a dressing room for models. In the future, design-related departments are also welcome to rent the space for courses, lectures, or fashion shows.
