West Garden 29 Fashion Creation Base_Taipei Fashion Museum Introduction
Using the concept of a tree as the main design axis to cultivate fashion design talents in Taiwan, the "Xiyuan 29 Fashion Creation Base" is located in the culturally rich Monga area and was formerly known as the Taipei Fashion Culture Museum. Now, it stands as a new landmark for creativity in the clothing industry, coupled with the surrounding Monga fashion district (Dalisi fashion district), transforming it into a three-story fashion base. The entire building features a brick-red exterior, with design elements based on the concept of a "tree," aiming to become a tree of creativity that absorbs the historical and cultural traits of the Wanhua area to nurture Taiwanese fashion design talents and branch out to nourish the Monga fashion district. It facilitates collaborations between local businesses and resident designers, establishing exemplary design project partnerships to revitalize Taiwan's fashion and fashion design industry, enhance the recognition of Taiwanese brands and design capabilities, and promote them on the international stage. Collaborating with schools to cultivate emerging designers is also a primary focus of the "Xiyuan 29 Fashion Creation Base." Currently, it offers guided tours for teachers and students from relevant departments of universities, and during the summer, it collaborates with schools for internship programs, allowing students to gain insights into the connection between design and marketing markets through hands-on experience in the operation management of the base and participating in activities with designers and the Monga fashion district. Additionally, it has plans to offer courses analyzing fashion trends or professional exhibitions, introducing new information and striving to nurture Taiwanese design talent. A great place for design inspiration, where designers can unleash their creativity, visitors can walk into the first-floor lobby designed with a pure white aesthetic, creating a sensory fashion information space that serves as a fashion stage highlighting the beautiful works of designers. There’s a coffee bar in the corner where visitors can leisurely sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee, appreciate stylish works, read design-related publications, and seek their inspiration. For those wanting to learn more about the "Xiyuan 29 Fashion Creation Base," the cultural history of the Monga area, or information about resident designers, there are exciting videos and interactive screens on the first floor that help visitors quickly absorb rich information, allowing them to interact with the content using a controller similar to a Wii. The second floor is a mobile working platform for designers, housing their studios and not open to public visits on weekdays. This is the source of creativity, equipped with space for pattern making and a variety of materials provided free of charge for designers to unleash their creativity and showcase their talents, creating clothing works that can be considered artworks. Currently, five designers, including Xu Yuzhu, Zeng Weixiang, Gao Shengzhong, Lu Xuezheng, and Shi Yulin, are stationed here, with plans to annually select emerging fashion designers with international market potential for residency. The third floor has a space suitable for small fashion shows, exhibitions, and lectures, featuring thick carpets and curtains with excellent soundproofing. To make the space more versatile and dynamic, tracks have been installed above the ceiling to create movable subdividers, designed to resemble the street map of the Monga area. The exhibition space includes a backstage model changing room. In the future, design-related departments are also welcome to rent the space for courses, lectures, or fashion shows.
