Xinzhuang Miao Street Night Market Introduction
Before the rise of Monga, Xinzhuang was a bustling commercial hub, once known for the saying "one capital, two deer, and three Xinzhuang." However, over time, it was replaced by Monga due to sediment accumulation in the rivers. Despite the changes throughout the generations, the lively atmosphere remains. The Temple Street Night Market features many iconic food stalls that evoke a sense of nostalgia. The night market, centered along Xinzhuang Road, primarily encompasses Xintai Road, Xinzhuang Road, Bijiang Street, and Jingde Road. The most distinctive aspect of the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market is that during the day, it is a historic old street, while at night it transforms into a vibrant food market. When mentioning the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market, the most famous food area is Alley 214 on Xinzhuang Road. In this short alley, you can find delicious oil rice on the left and savory meat ball soup on the right. After satisfying your hunger, you can enjoy some mung bean soup or frozen tofu pudding. There's also a tasty mushroom and meat soup next to the Wusheng Temple on Xinzhuang Road. Despite the small size of these eateries, they have been passed down through three generations, with their meat soup made from whole vegetarian meat, coated with sweet potato flour for added tenderness, providing a chewy and satisfying texture that keeps you coming back for more. The Ciyou Temple and Wusheng Temple within the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market have several hundred years of history and are nationally recognized as Grade III historic sites. They not only support the livelihoods of the old street food vendors but also witness the rise and fall of Xinzhuang over the past century. While visiting the night market, one might also take a moment to light incense and pray for family safety and good fortune. (Source: New Taipei City Tourism Website)
