Xinzhuang Miao Street Night Market Introduction
Before the rise of Wanhua, Xinzhuang was a bustling commercial hub, known for its title "One Prefecture, Two Deers, Three Xinzhuang." However, it was later replaced by Wanhua due to river harbor siltation. Despite changes over generations, it is no longer a vital waterway, but its vibrant atmosphere remains. The Temple Street Night Market is filled with many representative food stalls that evoke nostalgic flavors. Centered around Xinzhuang Road, the night market primarily encompasses Xintai Road, Xinzhuang Road, Bijiang Street, and Jingde Road. The most distinctive feature of the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market is that during the day it's a historic old street, while at night it transforms into a food night market. Mentioning the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market, the most popular food area is Alley 214 on Xinzhuang Road; in the short alley, you can enjoy fragrant oil rice on one side and savory meat dumpling soup on the other. After filling up, you can have some mung bean soup or frozen tofu pudding. There’s also the mushroom meat thick soup next to the Wusheng Temple on Xinzhuang Road. Don’t be fooled by the small storefront, as it is a three-generation family business. The thick soup insists on using whole pieces of meat, with the outer layer coated with sweet potato flour for added smoothness. The meat soup has a perfect elasticity and chewiness that makes it irresistible. The Ci'ou Temple and Wusheng Temple in the Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market also have hundreds of years of history and are recognized as level three historic sites by the country. They not only bless the livelihoods of the old street stalls but also witness the rise and fall of Xinzhuang over a century. While visiting the night market, it’s a good idea to light a stick of incense and pray for family safety and good fortune. (Source: New Taipei City Tourism Website)
