Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market Introduction
Before Wanhua rose to prominence, Xinzhuang was a bustling commercial hub, known for the saying "One Prefecture, Two Deers, Three Xinzhuang." However, it was later replaced by Wanhua due to the siltation of the river harbor. Although it is no longer a crucial waterway, its lively atmosphere remains, with the Miao-Jie Night Market offering plenty of representative local delicacies that evoke nostalgia. The night market, centered along Xinzhuang Road, mainly encompasses areas of Xintai Road, Xinzhuang Road, Bijiang Street, and Jingde Road. The most distinctive feature of the Xinzhuang Miao-Jie Night Market is that during the day it serves as a historically valuable old street, transforming into a food night market at night. When mentioning the Xinzhuang Miao-Jie Night Market, the most popular food area is Alley 214 on Xinzhuang Road, where in a short alleyway, you can find delicious oil rice on the left and savory red meat round dumpling soup on the right. After filling up, one can enjoy some mung bean soup or frozen tofu pudding. There’s also a mushroom red meat soup next to the Wu Sheng Temple on Xinzhuang Road. Don’t be deceived by the small size of the shop; it has been passed down through three generations, and the meat soup insists on using whole pieces of vegetarian meat. The outer layer is coated with sweet potato flour for added smoothness, and the meat soup retains absolute elasticity and bite, making it endlessly enjoyable. The Ci You Temple and Wu Sheng Temple in the Xinzhuang Miao-Jie Night Market both have hundreds of years of history and are certified as Level 3 historic sites. They not only bless the livelihoods of the old street's vendors but also witness the rise and fall of Xinzhuang over the century. While strolling through the night market, it's a good idea to light some incense and pray for family safety and good fortune. (Source: New Taipei City Tourism Network)
