Xinzhuang Temple Street Night Market Introduction

Before the rise of Wanhua, New Taipei's Xinzhuang was a bustling trade hub, once known by the phrase “one government, two deer, three Xinzhuang.” However, it fell behind Wanhua due to river siltation later on. Despite the changing eras and no longer being a key waterway, its lively charm has remained. The Miao Street Night Market features many representative food stalls, reminiscent of traditional flavors. The night market, centered on Xinzhuang Road, mainly spans Xintai Road, Xinzhuang Road, Bihe Street, and Jingde Road. The most distinctive aspect of Xinzhuang Miao Street Night Market is that during the day it serves as a historical old street, while at night it transforms into a vibrant food night market. Among the most popular food areas at Xinzhuang Miao Street Night Market is Alley 214 on Xinzhuang Road, where you can savor delicious sweet potato rice on one side and savory minced pork soup on the other. After filling up, try the mung bean soup or frozen tofu pudding. There’s also a savory mushroom and minced pork soup next to Wusheng Temple on Xinzhuang Road. Though the store is small, it is a family-run establishment passed down through three generations, insisting on using whole chunks of vegetarian meat for a solid texture, while the outer layer is coated with sweet potato flour for a smooth mouthfeel. The soup has perfect elasticity and chewiness, making it a dish you can enjoy over and over again. The Ciuyou Temple and Wusheng Temple in Xinzhuang Miao Street Night Market both have hundreds of years of history and are recognized as third-class national heritage sites. They not only bless the livelihoods of the old street vendors but also witness the rise and fall of Xinzhuang over the century. While visiting the night market, it’s worth taking a moment to light some incense and pray for family safety and good fortune. (Source: New Taipei City Tourism Website)
