Yenliao Anti-Japanese Memorial Monument Introduction
The Yanliao Anti-Japanese Memorial is located within the Yanliao Seaside Park. After the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing Dynasty and the Empire of Japan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ceding Taiwan to Japan. Taiwanese military and civilian groups organized the Republic of Taiwan to resist the Japanese army. On May 29, 1895, Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa led the Imperial Guards Division to land at Aodi, marking the official start of the Taiwan Expedition, and in June, Taipei surrendered, making Taiwan a colony of the Empire of Japan, initiating a 50-year period of Japanese rule. The Japanese military erected a landing memorial at the site of the Yanliao landing. After the restoration of Taiwan, the local government abolished the original monument and rebuilt the Anti-Japanese Memorial to commemorate the brave spirit of the anti-Japanese martyrs.
