Yanliao Anti-Japanese Memorial碑 Introduction
The Yanliao Anti-Japanese Memorial is located within Yanliao Seaside Park. After the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing Dynasty and the Empire of Japan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ceding Taiwan to Japan. The military and civilians of Taiwan organized the Republic of Taiwan to resist the Japanese army. On May 29, 1895, Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa led the Imperial Guard Division to land in Aodi, marking the official start of the Taiwan Expedition. In June, Taipei surrendered, and Taiwan became a colony of the Japanese Empire, beginning a 50-year period of Japanese rule. The Japanese army erected a landing memorial at the site of the Yanliao landing. After Taiwan's restoration, the local office abolished the original monument and rebuilt the Anti-Japanese Memorial to commemorate the brave spirit of the anti-Japanese heroes.
