Yenliao Anti-Japanese Memorial碑 Introduction
The Yanliao Anti-Japanese Memorial is located within Yanliao Seaside Park. After the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing Dynasty and the Empire of Japan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ceding Taiwan to Japan. The Taiwanese military and civilian organizations formed the Taiwan Republic to resist the Japanese army. On May 29, 1895, Prince Yoshihisa Kitashirakawa of Japan landed in Aodi with the Imperial Guards Division, marking the official beginning of the Amethyst War. In June, Taipei officially surrendered, and Taiwan became a colony of the Japanese Empire, beginning a 50-year period of Japanese rule. The Japanese army erected a landing memorial at the Yanliao landing site. After Taiwan's restoration, the local government dismantled the original monument and built the Anti-Japanese Memorial to honor the bravery of the anti-Japanese martyrs.
