Shengchang Chinese Medicine Exploration Center Introduction
Sheng Chang Pharmaceutical Factory was established in 1946, initially producing raw medicinal powders, pills, and ointments. Later, it began to invest in the production of modern concentrated traditional Chinese medicine formulations, becoming a pioneer in the development of concentrated traditional Chinese medicine (scientific traditional medicine) in Taiwan. In 1966, it commenced large-scale production of high-quality concentrated traditional Chinese medicine at its Zhonghe site. In 1976, it was the first to introduce the concept of GMP, and in 1986 it became the first traditional Chinese medicine manufacturer in the country to pass the GMP software evaluation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In 2000, it invested 3 billion NTD to establish the Chinese Herbal Medicine Research and Teaching Park in Zhongli. With a scientific spirit, advanced equipment, and rigorous quality control, it continuously innovates, and its various dosage forms of products have received widespread recognition in the medical field, being marketed globally. In 2018, it passed the strict PIC/S GMP factory certification by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) of Japan. In 2020, to raise awareness about traditional Chinese medicine, Sheng Chang established the Sheng Chang Chinese Herbal Medicine Exploration Hall to promote the knowledge of herbal medicine culture to the public. The Exploration Hall is divided into five sections representing wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, displaying over a hundred types of medicinal herbs. It engages visitors through interactive multimedia and touch process games to spark their interest, designing a lively and dynamic five-sense exploration: using hearing to enter the fantastic world of herbal medicine, using smell to connect with flavor imaginations, using touch to feel the energy and texture of herbs, using taste to enjoy pure and healthy nourishment, and using sight to observe the textures and appearances of the herbs. It aims to inspire a lifestyle attitude that enhances sensitivity and understanding of oneself and the world, promoting diversity in life through the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine, leading to healthier and happier lives for the public, as well as a more colorful life. After six decades, it continues to carry on the spirit of the ancient healer Sun Simiao, innovating and seeking change within tradition.
