Shengchang Chinese Medicine Exploration Museum Introduction

Sheng Chang Pharmaceutical Factory was established in 1946, initially producing raw herbal powders, pills, and pastes. It later ventured into the production of modern concentrated herbal medicines, becoming a pioneer in the development of concentrated Chinese medicine (scientific Chinese medicine) in Taiwan. In 1966, it began mass production of high-quality concentrated Chinese medicine at the Zhonghe factory location, and in 1976, it was the first to introduce the concept of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Following an evaluation by the Department of Health in 1986, it became the first pharmaceutical company in the nation to pass the GMP evaluation for traditional Chinese medicine. In 2000, it invested 3 billion NTD to establish the Chinese herbal medicine research, study, and education park in Zhongli. With a scientific spirit, advanced equipment, and rigorous quality control requirements, Sheng Chang continuously innovates. Its various dosage forms have been widely recognized in the medical community and marketed globally. In 2018, it passed the rigorous PIC/S GMP factory certification from the Japan Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA). In 2020, to promote greater awareness of traditional Chinese medicine, the Sheng Chang Chinese Medicinal Herb Exploration Hall was established to convey the cultural knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine to the public. The Sheng Chang Chinese Medicinal Herb Exploration Hall is divided into five sections representing wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. It showcases over a hundred types of Chinese medicinal materials and engages visitors' interests through interactive multimedia and touch-based mini-games, creating a lively experience that stimulates all five senses: hearing invites visitors into the magical world of herbs, smelling connects to the imagination of flavors, touching feels the energy and texture of the materials, tasting offers the enjoyment of pure health nourishment, and seeing observes the patterns and appearances of the herbs. The aim is to inspire a lifestyle attitude, enhancing sensitivity and understanding of oneself and the world, fostering diversity in life through the philosophy of Chinese herbal medicine, contributing not only to public health and happiness but also to enriching people's lives. After over sixty years, Sheng Chang carries on the spirit of Sun Simiao in helping others, seeking innovation and change within tradition. Visitors are welcome to enter the Sheng Chang Chinese Medicinal Herb Exploration Hall to learn and experience the rich connotations of Chinese medicine culture and draw wisdom from ancient sages on health preservation.
