Shengchang Traditional Chinese Medicine Exploration Center Introduction
Shengchang Pharmaceutical Factory was established in 1946, initially producing raw medicinal powders and various types of pills and ointments. It later began to focus on the production of modern concentrated traditional Chinese medicine formulations, becoming a pioneer in the development of concentrated traditional Chinese medicine (scientific herbal medicine) in Taiwan. In 1966, it commenced large-scale production of high-quality concentrated traditional Chinese medicine at its Zhonghe factory site. In 1976, it was the first to introduce the concept of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and in 1986, it was recognized as the first pharmaceutical factory in the nation to pass the GMP software evaluation for traditional Chinese medicine, verified by the Department of Health. Furthermore, in 2000, it invested 3 billion NT dollars to establish a traditional Chinese herbal medicine research, education, and exhibition park in Zhongli. With a scientific spirit, advanced equipment, and rigorous quality control standards, it has innovated and produced a variety of dosage forms that have been widely recognized in the medical community and marketed globally. In 2018, it passed the stringent Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Agency (PMDA) PIC/S GMP factory certification in Japan. In 2020, to raise awareness of traditional Chinese medicine, it established the Shengchang Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Exploration Center to promote knowledge of herbal medicine culture to the public. The Exploration Center is divided into five sections based on the five elemental categories: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, showcasing over a hundred types of Chinese medicinal materials. It engages the public through interactive multimedia and touch-based mini-games designed to inspire interest, creating a lively sensory exploration experience: using auditory senses to enter the fantastic world of traditional herbal medicine, connecting the sense of smell to the imagination of flavors, using touch to feel the energy and texture of medicinal materials, tasting pure and healthy nourishment, and observing the texture and appearance of medicinal materials visually. It hopes to inspire a lifestyle attitude that enhances sensitivity and understanding towards oneself and the world, promoting diversity in life through the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine, ultimately contributing to the health and happiness of the public while enriching their lives. After more than sixty years, it carries forward the spirit of Sun Simiao's mission to save and serve people, innovating and seeking change within tradition.
