Lala Ban Xin She Banana Fiber Workshop

Hualien Foods

With the mission of inheriting and passing down the banana fiber craft culture, it utilizes banana fiber from native materials to express the spirit and cultural values of the Kavalan tribe, seeking opportunities to develop the Kavalan cultural industry. After the initiation of the Huadong Coastal Highway (Taiwan Route 11) in 1968, the village was quickly drawn into "modernization," and with the influx of various materials, the banana fiber craft saw a decline. Fortunately, alongside the revival of the Kavalan tribe’s cultural renaissance and revitalization movement, the older generation of tribal members has reintroduced traditional loom weaving techniques. Through processes such as planting, cutting, scraping, drying, separating, twisting, winding, warping, and weaving banana fibers, a profound cultural technique has been accumulated.
