lala Ban Xinshe Banana Fiber Workshop

Hualien Foods

Empowered by the mission to pass on the banana fiber craft culture, the raw material of banana silk fiber expresses the spirit and cultural values of the Kavalan people, seeking to create opportunities in the Kavalan cultural industry. After the construction of the East Coast National Scenic Area (Provincial Highway 11) began in 1968, the community quickly became entangled in "modernization." With the influx of various materials, the banana silk craft began to decline. Fortunately, during the resurgence of the Kavalan people's vitality and cultural revival movement, the elders revived the traditional techniques of loom weaving among the tribe. The entire process from planting bananas, harvesting, scraping silk, drying, separating threads, twisting threads, winding threads, and warping to weaving has accumulated profound craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
