Xiao Chi Jiao Hyperbolic Bridge & Humu Stone Weir Introduction
The Hyperbolic Bridge at Xiaochijiao extends into the sea with its pure white body stretching straight into the distance, flanked by green pavilions on both sides. The bridge is located right in the intertidal zone, and on clear days during high tide, the blue sky and the deep blue sea below create a picturesque seaside view. When the tide retreats, large areas of intertidal rocky platforms are exposed, and local residents take this opportunity to collect shells or catch fish. On the opposite side of the Hyperbolic Bridge is the Humu Stone Trap, the only single stone trap in Chixi Village, constructed around 1947 from basalt. In between the two stone embankments, there is a heart-shaped trap house, resembling a heart-shaped necklace. Fish swim into the stone trap during high tide, and when the tide recedes, they become trapped inside, allowing fishermen to catch their harvest. This was a primary fishing method in early Penghu fisheries. Due to this characteristic, to see the true shape of the Humu Stone Trap, one must pay attention to the tidal schedule, as the complete heart shape of the trap can only be appreciated during low tide. Additionally, please be aware that the Humu Stone Trap is private property, and the intertidal zone can be quite slippery during low tide, so do not enter casually to avoid danger!
