Xiǎo Chí Jiǎo Shuāng Qǔ Qiáo & Hǔ Mù Shí Hù Introduction
The Hyperbolic Bridge at Xiaoqi Jiao extends into the sea, with its pure white structure stretching straight out into the distance, flanked by green pavilions on both sides. The bridge is situated right on the intertidal zone, and on clear days during high tide, the blue sky and the deep blue sea below create a beautiful seascape; when the tide goes out, large areas of intertidal rocky platforms are exposed, and locals take this opportunity to collect shellfish or fish. On the other side of the Hyperbolic Bridge is the Humu Stone Weir, the only single weir in Chixi Village, built around 1947 and made of basalt. Between the two stone dikes lies a heart-shaped weir house, resembling a heart-shaped necklace. When the tide rises, fish swim into the weir, and when the tide recedes, they become trapped inside, allowing fishermen to catch their haul. This was a primary method of fishing in early Penghu. Due to this characteristic, to see the true form of the Humu Stone Weir, one must pay attention to the tidal times and wait for the tide to go out to appreciate the complete heart shape of the weir. Additionally, it is important to note that since the Humu Stone Weir is private property and the intertidal zone can be very slippery during low tide, please do not enter without permission to avoid danger!
