Xiao Chi Jiao Hyperbolic Bridge & Tiger Eye Stone Weir Introduction
The hyperbolic bridge at Xiaochijiao stretches into the sea with its pure white structure extending straight into the distance, flanked by green pavilions on both sides. The hyperbolic bridge is perfectly located at the intertidal zone. On a clear day, during high tide, the azure sky and the deep blue sea beneath create a beautiful coastal scenery. When the tide recedes, large areas of intertidal rocks are exposed, and local residents take this opportunity to collect shells or fish. Opposite the hyperbolic bridge is the Humu stone weir, the only single-walled stone weir in Chixi Village, constructed around 1947 from basalt. Between the two stone embankments lies a heart-shaped weir house, resembling a heart-shaped necklace. During high tide, fish swim into the weir, and once the tide goes out, they become trapped inside, allowing fishermen to catch their harvest. This was a primary fishing method in early Penghu. Because of this characteristic, to fully appreciate the true shape of the Humu stone weir, it is essential to pay attention to the tide times, as only during low tide can one admire the complete heart shape of the weir. Additionally, please note that the Humu stone weir is private property and the intertidal zone can be very slippery during low tide, so do not enter casually to avoid any hazards!
