Xiao Pond Reservoir Introduction
Xiao Chi Reservoir was not originally a reservoir, but a pond, which is the origin of its name "Xiao Chi." Due to the natural conditions in the Penghu area, there are inherent difficulties in developing groundwater, which has already reached saturation. To address the issue of domestic water supply, a small reservoir was constructed. The Xiao Chi Reservoir was built based on the ten-year implementation plan for the development of water resources in Penghu, following the Chikeng groundwater reservoir and the Xi'an Reservoir in Wang-an. Construction began in February 1989 and was completed and put into use in June 1990, with a total storage capacity of approximately 200,000 cubic meters to meet the drinking water needs of residents in Xi Yu Township. Xiao Chi Reservoir was constructed in a low-lying hilly area between the villages of Da Chi and Xiao Chi, located in a coastal bay. The catchment area is 1.05 square kilometers, with a normal water level elevation of 14.2 meters, a dam length of 245 meters, a dam height of 17 meters, a full water storage capacity of 130,000 cubic meters, and a planned annual water supply of 293,000 cubic meters. Herons are commonly seen here, making it a great spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. Behind the reservoir is a scenic beach known locally as "Dream Beach," also referred to as "Menghuan Beach."
