Xiao Chi Reservoir Introduction
Xiao Chi Reservoir, originally not a reservoir but a pond, got its name from this very characteristic. Due to the natural constraints in the Penghu area, there are inherent difficulties in groundwater development, which has already reached saturation. To solve the issue of domestic water supply, a small reservoir was constructed. The Xiao Chi Reservoir was initiated in February 1989 based on the ten-year implementation plan for Penghu’s water resources development, following the Chikan Underground Reservoir and the Wang-an Xian Reservoir. It was completed and put into operation in June 1990, with a total water storage capacity of approximately 200,000 cubic meters to meet the drinking water needs of the residents of Xiyu Township. It was built in a low-lying hilly area between Dachi and Xiaochi Villages, at a coastal bay. The catchment area is 1.05 square kilometers, with a normal water level of 14.2 meters, a dam length of 245 meters, a dam height of 17 meters, a full water level storage capacity of 130,000 cubic meters, and a planned annual water supply of 293,000 cubic meters. White egrets are often seen here, making it a great place for birdwatchers. Behind the reservoir is a beautiful beach known locally as Dream Beach, also referred to as Wang'an Hai Beach.
