Jinyu Island Introduction
In Baisha Township, there was a famous businessman named Zhang Baiwan. Although Zhang Baiwan’s former residence is located in Wadong Village, Baisha Island, it is widely rumored that his wealth is closely related to Jin Yu (Golden Island)! Jin Yu is situated in the northern waters of Chikan Village on Baisha Island and can be reached by wading during low tide. It is said that before Zhang Baiwan became wealthy, he often went to an uninhabited island to fish and collected black stones from the island to take home. Over time, the number of black stones he brought back was enough to build a wall. Later, with the guidance of a knowledgeable person, he learned that these black stones were actually black gold, which led him to great wealth, making him the richest man in Penghu. This uninhabited island was subsequently named Jin Yu. While the authenticity of this story cannot be verified, what can be confirmed is that today, Jin Yu does not have black gold; the black stones on the island are actually basalt. The basalt columns here have distinctive features, varying in shapes such as upright, horizontal, and radial formations. At the southern end of Jin Yu, there is a famous natural formation consisting of horizontal basalt columns that, from a distance, resembles a large lion and bears some resemblance to the Sphinx in Egypt. The locals refer to it as "Lion Head," which is definitely worth a visit!
