Jin Yu Introduction
In Baisha Township, there was a famous businessman named Zhang Baiwan. Although Zhang Baiwan's former residence is located in Wadong Village on Baisha Island, it is widely rumored that his fortune is closely related to Jinyu! Jinyu is situated in the northern sea area of Chikan Village on Baisha Island and can be accessed by wading during low tide. It is said that before making his fortune, Zhang Baiwan often went to an uninhabited island to fish and collected black stones from the island to take home. Over time, the black stones he brought back were enough to build a wall. Later, under the guidance of a knowledgeable person, he learned that these black stones were actually black gold, which made him very wealthy, becoming the richest person in Penghu. This uninhabited island was named Jinyu. While the authenticity of this story is uncertain, it can be confirmed that today's Jinyu does not have black gold; the black stones on the island are actually basalt. The basalt columns here have distinctive features, appearing in various forms including upright, horizontal, and radiating. At the southern end of Jinyu, there is a famous natural landscape formed by horizontal basalt columns, which from a distance resembles a large lion and has some similarity to the Sphinx of Egypt. Locals refer to it as "Lion Head," making it well worth a visit!
