Sanlong Temple Introduction
Sanlung Temple, commonly known as Wangye Temple, enshrines the Three Surnames Wangye from Chi-fu, also referred to as Sanfu Qiansui. It is said that a deity named Wangye arrived on a small boat at Xiaoliuqiu and established a grass temple, marking the beginning of Sanlung Temple. The Sanfu Qiansui Peace Festival, held every three years, is a significant event in Liuqiu Township. During this festival, families with roots in Liuqiu return home from various places, and fishing boats from Liuqiu suspend their operations to come back, filling the harbor with vessels of all sizes. The township office also hosts a Wang Boat Festival gala the night before the celebration, complete with fireworks, creating a lively atmosphere. On the island, men of all ranks participate as bearers of the palanquin, while women are responsible for providing snacks for the palanquin bearers and lunch for the worshippers, along with various drinks available for free along the route. All these traditions highlight the unique welcoming rituals for the Wangye deity in Xiaoliuqiu.
