Yunyang Mountain Introduction
At an elevation of 248 meters, Yuntai Mountain is the second highest peak, following Beigan Bi Mountain (294 meters), and serves as the highest point in Nangan. It is also the best spot for panoramic views of the Matsu Islands and the mainland. Yuntai Mountain has been designated as one of Taiwan's Minor Hundred Peaks. To understand the strategic situation of Matsu and the military dynamics across the strait, the Matsu Defense Command (referred to as "MDC") built a military observation facility on Yuntai Mountain in 1996 to enhance the education of military personnel regarding enemy situations. However, in 2009, considering the development of tourism in the Matsu region, the materials displayed in the military facility were relocated, and the MDC agreed to allow the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration to renovate the facility, which was reopened to visitors on November 7 of the following year. From early spring to early summer, during the rainy and foggy seasons, the surrounding mountains are enveloped in mist, presenting a subtle beauty; on clear days, the Beigao Peninsula on the mainland is clearly visible. Yuntai Mountain is particularly beautiful at night, where couples can overlook the evening lights of Nangan, creating a romantic atmosphere.
