Yuntai Mountain Introduction

Yuntai Mountain, standing at an elevation of 248 meters, is the second highest peak after Beigan Wall Mountain (294 meters) and the highest peak in Nangan. It is an excellent spot for panoramic views of the Matsu Islands and the mainland's mountains and rivers, and has been listed as one of Taiwan's minor 100 peaks. To understand the strategic situation of Matsu and the military dynamics across the strait, the Matsu Defense Command (referred to as "MDC") built a military situation room on Yuntai Mountain in 1996 to strengthen the enemy intelligence education for its personnel. However, in 2009, considering the tourism development in Matsu, the displayed materials in the military situation room were relocated, and the MDC agreed to allow the management office of the Matsu National Scenic Area to renovate the military situation room, which opened to visitors on November 7 of the following year. During the early spring to early summer rainy and misty seasons, the surrounding mountains are enveloped in mist, presenting a subtle beauty; on clear days, the Beigang Peninsula is clearly visible. At night, Yuntai Mountain is even more beautiful, where couples can overlook the lights of Nangan, creating a romantic atmosphere.
