Zhongzhu Harbor Introduction
Dongyin Township is the primary gateway to Dongyin Island, which is the northernmost island in the Matsu archipelago and the closest to Taiwan. Surrounded by the East China Sea, its landscape and topography are incredibly charming, and it would not be an exaggeration to praise it as a national treasure-level coastline. The main entry point to Dongyin Island is Zhongzhu Port. As large ships enter the harbor, standing on the deck, one can clearly see the three large red characters "中柱港" carved into the rock face, indicating that the long journey is about to come to an end. Upon disembarking, the prominent statue of the "Dream Fish – the Horizontal Band Snapper" at the dock is a significant landmark on the island. Northeast of Zhongzhu Port, there is a densely packed cluster of houses on the hillside, which is the lively Lehua Village and Zhongliu Village, known for having the most traditional Minnan residences, commonly serving as places to settle down and find food in Dongyin. Exploring the unique coastal landforms of Dongyin, the entire island is composed of granite structures, with beautiful sights such as sea-eroded cliffs, sea-eroded columns, and sea-eroded caves scattered throughout the island, often leaving visitors in awe. The coastal reefs are jagged, with high cliffs and deep waters. Additionally, different high-value fish species come ashore throughout the year, making fishing activities very lively, and it has been recognized by fishing enthusiasts in Taiwan as a sacred place for rock fishing.
