East China Sea Gale Introduction
The best vantage point to overlook the entire Nan’ao area is on the hilltop above Qidong in Nan’ao. There is a giant stone inscribed with the four characters "East China Sea Heroic Winds." According to the records of Dongyin Township, in the spring of 1956, the island's stationed troops, the East China Sea Guerrilla Team, encountered several enemy ships while patrolling the sea defense. They bravely repelled the invasion and returned triumphantly. The unit commander, pleased with their victory against a larger force, inscribed the four characters "East China Sea Heroic Winds" to commemorate their bravery. Standing on the hilltop, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Nan'ao Village and the Zhongzhu Harbor area, with stunning scenery visible in all directions — it is the only elevated point on Dongyin Island that allows a 360-degree view of the entire island.
