Ascending the steps to reminisce about the past, Zhongxin Gate was once the gateway to Dongyin Island before the completion of Zhongzhu Port. It served as a crucial passage for the military and residents of Dongyin as well as for the loading and unloading of fish catches, though it has since lost its original function. Zhongxin Gate is a semi-circular, ancient-style structure located at the entrance to the coastal area of South Ao on Dongyin Island. Flanking the gate are large characters inscribed in white on red background, reading "Uphold the Law and Be Practical, Diligent and Frugal." Atop the city wall stands a soldier statue holding a rifle, striking a heroic pose that embodies the spirit of being a steadfast defender, reflecting the historical atmosphere of Dongyin's past on the battlefield. Passing through the gate and ascending the steps, one arrives at the once-bustling "Zhonglu," which refers to the lively area built against the mountains—Zhongliu Village and Lehua Village. This area retains many traditional Min Dong houses made of granite, sturdy and unpretentious, and exuding the flavor of "the battlefield Jiufen." Climbing up the gate provides a great vantage point overlooking Zhongxin Port beside the statue. Located in the left rear of Zhongxin Gate is the Tianhou Temple of Dongyin, believed to have been constructed during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, serving as an important center of faith for local residents. The soldier of Dongyin who never retires, there is a soldier statue atop Zhongxin Gate, built around 1974, which has been on duty for over 40 years and continues to guard the position. Inspired by a military recruitment advertisement, it was named "A-Rong" and can be considered a shared symbol of the military and civilians of Dongyin.
