Zhongcheng Gate Introduction
Before reaching Zhongzhukang, Zhongcheng Gate was always the gateway to Dongyin Island, a crucial passage for the local military and fishermen in the past, now lost its original function. Zhongcheng Gate is a semi-circular building designed in an ancient style, located at the entrance of the coastal area of Dongyin Island. On both sides of the gate tower, there are eight large characters written in white on a red background: "Chongfa Wushi, Qinlao Jianpu." On top of the wall stands a statue of a soldier holding a gun, embodying a heroic stance that reflects the historical atmosphere of Dongyin being a war zone in the past. Passing through the gate and climbing the steps, one arrives at the once-bustling "Zhonglu," which is the commercial area of Dongyin built against the mountains—Zhongliu Village and Lehua Village. This area retains many traditional Min Dong residences, constructed from granite, rugged and sturdy, giving it a charm reminiscent of "the Ninefolds of the battlefield." Climbing up the gate provides a great vantage point overlooking Zhongzhukang, and located to the left and behind Zhongcheng Gate is the Tianhou Temple, which is said to have been built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty and serves as an important center of faith for local residents. The enduring soldier of Dongyin features a soldier statue on Zhongcheng Gate, built around 1974, which has stood guard for over 40 years. Inspired by a military recruitment advertisement, it is named "A Rong" and can be considered a spiritual symbol shared by the military and civilians of Dongyin, as well as a must-visit spot for many veterans returning to their old haunts.
