Hou'ao Introduction
The Natural Geology Classroom You Must Visit The coastal erosion landscape of Xiayin Hau’ao is extremely rich, featuring sea caves, sea arches, and sea stacks. It is one of the best places to observe coastal erosion formations. Sea caves are formed when the protruding headlands are eroded by seawater along fractured joints or softer layers over time, leading to the undercutting of the cliffs. If erosion continues and a sea cave is eroded through, it forms a sea arch; if the roof of the sea arch cannot support itself and collapses, or if the mid-section of a headland is eroded away, causing the front rock mass to separate from the land, it results in a sea stack, isolating it in the ocean.
