Hou'ao Introduction
A must-visit natural geological classroom, Xiyin Hou'ao features a rich diversity of coastal erosion topography, including sea caves, sea arches, and sea stacks, making it one of the best places to observe such formations. Sea caves are formed as the protruding promontory in the sea is eroded over time by the waves along the softer parts of fractured joints or rock layers. If the erosion continues, the sea cave may be eroded through to form a sea arch; if the top of the sea arch cannot be supported and collapses, or the middle section of the promontory is eroded away, causing the front rock to be separated from the land, it results in a sea stack, standing isolated in the ocean.
