One Line Sky Introduction
The Sky Gap at the Steep Cliff is located on the left cape of Tianwang Ao on the east side of Dongyin Island. It features a steep sea-eroded gully terrain, where two rock walls are vertically adjacent to each other. The top is narrow and the bottom is wide, connecting the sky above and the sea below. Whenever the tide comes in, the waves crash against the rocks at the bottom, resembling the sound of galloping horses, creating a magnificent echo among the rock walls. Between the two cliffs, a tunnel has been built, along with a cement bridge that connects them. The bridge surface is only a few dozen meters above sea level but has a majestic height of over a hundred meters. The rock wall is inscribed with the four characters “Sky Gap Listening to Waves,” beautifully capturing the charm of this scenic spot. This inscription was made by General Lai Ming-tang, who was the Chief of Staff in 1972, during his inspection of Dongyin, and it is thoughtfully engraved high on the towering rock wall, conveying a sense of isolation from the frontline. In the past, the Sky Gap was a military restricted area, but it is now fully open to the public, and visitors can enter freely without prior reservation. After descending the steps to reach the end of the defensive trench, the landscape of the "Sky Gap" unfolds before you, and you can listen to the sound of the waves anytime. Note: Visitors are reminded to be careful when using the stairs, watch out for slippery areas and falling rocks. The power will be turned off after the opening hours, so please cooperate and pay attention to travel safety.
