Zhongzhujiao Island Introduction
The important dyke connecting Dongyin and Xiyin Dongyin was originally not an island but was formed by two independent islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a reef called Zhongzhu Island between the two islands, which became an isolated rocky island during high tide, located about 200 meters from Xiyin. Before the dyke connecting the two islands was built, during low tide, one could walk from Dongyin through Zhongzhu Island and wade over to Xiyin. In 1975, the military utilized the blasted stones from the construction of Zhongzhu Harbor to fill in the Zhongzhu Bridge dyke. They first built the Chiang Kai-shek Bridge connecting Dongyin and Zhongzhu, and later completed the road to Xiyin, linking Dongyin and Xiyin together and making transportation more convenient. Today, it is more aptly referred to as the "Zhongzhu Dyke." On Zhongzhu Island, there is a stone carving called "Zhongliu Dizhu," and in the middle of the road, there is a pavilion called the "Gratitude Pavilion," which stands higher than the road surface. As you pass by, you can see a statue of Chiang Ching-kuo sitting in the pavilion from afar, making it a major landmark for those heading to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight road, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset over the sea at Zhongzhu Harbor, with the sun sinking into the ocean, and savor the serene and beautiful moments.
