Zhongzhi Island Introduction
The crucial dike connecting Dongyin and Xiyin was originally not an island, but rather a combination of two independent islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a reef between the two islands called Zhongzhu Island, which became an isolated rocky island during high tide, located about 200 meters from Xiyin. Before the dike connecting the two islands was established, during low tide, one could walk through Zhongzhu Island from Dongyin to Xiyin. In 1975, the military used the rubble from blasting to construct Zhongzhu Port to fill the Zhongzhu Long Dike. They first built the Jieshi Bridge connecting Dongyin and Zhongzhu, and then completed the road to Xiyin, connecting the two islands and making transportation more convenient, now more fittingly described as the "Zhongzhu Dike." On Zhongzhu Island, there is a stone carving called "Zhongliu Dizhu," and along the road stands a pavilion called "Gratitude Pavilion," which is higher than the road surface. From a distance, one can see a statue of Chiang Ching-kuo sitting in the pavilion, which serves as a major landmark for those heading to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight avenue, one can enjoy the beautiful scene of the sunset reflecting on the surface of Zhongzhu Port, as the sun sinks into the sea, savoring a tranquil and beautiful moment.
