Zhongzhou Island Introduction
The important causeway connecting Dongyin and Xiyin was not originally an island, but a combination of the two independent islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a reef between the two islands called Zhongzhu Island, which became an isolated reef island during high tide, located about 200 meters from Xiyin. When the embankment connecting the two islands had not yet been built, it was possible to walk across Zhongzhu Island from Dongyin to Xiyin during low tide. In 1975, the military used rock fragments from the construction of Zhongzhu Harbor to fill in the Zhongzhu Causeway. They first built the Jiangong Bridge connecting Dongyin to Zhongzhu, and then completed the road leading to Xiyin, thereby connecting Dongyin and Xiyin and making transportation more convenient. Today, it is more appropriately referred to as "Zhongzhu Causeway." On Zhongzhu Island, there is a stone carving called "Zhongliu Dizhu," and in the middle of the road stands the Gratitude Pavilion, which is elevated above the road surface. Passing by, one can still see the statue of Chiang Ching-kuo sitting inside the pavilion from a distance, which is a major landmark on the way to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight avenue, one can enjoy the view of the sunset on the surface of Zhongzhu Harbor and the sun sinking into the sea, savoring the tranquil and beautiful moments.
