Zhongzhujiao Island Introduction
The important causeway connecting Dongyin and Xiyin Dongyin was originally not an island but composed of two separate islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a rocky islet between the two islands known as Zhongzhu Island. During high tide, it became an isolated reef island in the sea, located about 200 meters from Xiyin. Before the causeway connecting the two islands was built, it was possible to walk through Zhongzhu Island at low tide from Dongyin to Xiyin. In 1975, the military used the blasted rocks from the construction of Zhongzhu Port to fill in the Zhongzhu Causeway. They first built the Jiang Jingguo Bridge to connect Dongyin with Zhongzhu, and later completed the road leading to Xiyin, thus connecting Dongyin and Xiyin more conveniently. Nowadays, the term "Zhongzhu Causeway" is more appropriate for describing this connection. On Zhongzhu Island, there is a stone carving known as "Zhongliu Duzhu," and in the middle of the road, there is a raised pavilion called the Gratitude Pavilion. From afar, you can see a statue of Chiang Ching-kuo seated in the pavilion, which serves as a major landmark for those heading to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight avenue allows you to enjoy the view of the sunset over the sea at Zhongzhu Port, witnessing the sun sink into the ocean, and experience a serene and beautiful moment.
