Zhongzhu Island Introduction
The important embankment connecting Dongyin and Xiyin originally was not a single island, but rather comprised two independent islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a reef between the two islands known as Zhongzhu Island, which became an isolated reef island during high tide, located about 200 meters from Xiyin. Before the embankment connecting the two islands was built, during low tide, one could walk from Dongyin to Xiyin by crossing Zhongzhu Island. In 1975, the military utilized blasting rubble from the construction of Zhongzhu Harbor to fill in the Zhongzhu Causeway, first building the Chiang Kai-shek Bridge to connect Dongyin with Zhongzhu, and then completing the road to Xiyin, thereby connecting Dongyin and Xiyin for more convenient transportation. Today, it is aptly referred to as the "Zhongzhu Causeway." Zhongzhu Island features the stone carving "Zhongliudizhu" and there is a Gratitude Pavilion elevated above the road. From afar, one can still see the statue of Chiang Ching-kuo sitting inside the pavilion, which serves as a major landmark for those traveling to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight avenue, visitors can enjoy the sunset over the sea at Zhongzhu Harbor, the sun sinking into the ocean during twilight, and relish a tranquil and beautiful moment.
