烈女義坑

The majestic and desolate cliffs are located on the eastern side of Dongyin Island, behind Tianwang Ao. It is a nearly vertical natural sea-eroded cliff, towering about one hundred meters high, commanding an imposing presence. According to legend, during the late Qing dynasty, pirates often occupied the islands in the vicinity of Fujian, causing great suffering among the locals. One day, pirates raided Dongyin, and a fisherman was killed by them. His wife fled to this sea-eroded cliff, with no way to retreat, as the pirates intended to abduct her. The fisherman's wife resisted and, refusing to comply, leapt off the cliff to preserve her virtue. Later generations honored her bravery and named the place "Liernuyikeng" (The Patriotic Woman's Cliff). Liernuyikeng features steep terrain, and the cliff wall is engraved with five large characters: "Loyalty and Bravery Transcend Time." A pathway descends from the center of the cliff wall towards the bay, leading directly to Liernuyikeng. Visitors can walk along the railing path to a viewpoint, where they can admire the height of the cliff, standing over a hundred meters above the sea, with standout rock formations that evoke admiration for the courage of that woman. On the west side of Liernuyikeng is a rock known as "Liernuyishi" (The Patriotic Woman's Stone), named because a woman supposedly waited there for her husband to return; it is also one of Dongyin's unique giant rock formations. Note: This area is prone to strong winds and rugged terrain; please pay extra attention to your safety.

Liè Nǚ Yì Kēng (Maiden's Sacrifice Keng) Introduction

The magnificent and dramatic cliff is located on the eastern side of Dongyin Island, behind Tianwang Ao. It is a nearly vertical natural sea erosion cliff that stands almost 100 meters high, impressively towering above the surroundings. According to legend, during the late Qing Dynasty, pirates often occupied the islands in the Min Sea, and the residents lived in distress. One day, pirates raided Dongyin, and a fisherman was killed by them. His wife fled to this sea erosion cliff, with no way to retreat. When the pirates attempted to abduct and violate her, she fiercely resisted and, in her despair, leaped off the cliff to preserve her chastity. To honor her loyalty and bravery, later generations named this place "Martyr's Grave." The terrain of Martyr's Grave is steep and rugged, with the words "Loyalty and Valor Last for Eternity" carved in large characters on the cliff face. In the center of the cliff, a pathway descends into the bay leading to Martyr's Grave. Visitors can walk along the railed path to the viewpoint, where they can gaze in awe at the cliff that rises over a hundred meters above the sea, with its protruding rock formations eliciting admiration for the courage of that woman. To the west of Martyr's Grave is a rock known as "Martyr's Stone," named for a woman who waited for her husband to return, making it one of Dongyin's unique giant rock landscapes. Note: This area experiences strong winds and rugged terrain; please take extra care for your own safety.
