Lioness Wailing Pit Introduction
The towering and magnificent tragic cliff is located on the east side of Dongyin Island, behind Tianwang Ao. It is a nearly vertical natural sea-eroded cliff, close to one hundred meters high, awe-inspiring in its grandeur. According to legend, during the late Qing Dynasty, pirates often ravaged the islands around the Fujian Sea, causing great suffering for the locals. One day, pirates invaded Dongyin Island and killed a fisherman; his wife fled to this sea-eroded cliff, with no way to retreat. To avoid being captured and assaulted by the pirates, the widow bravely jumped off the cliff to preserve her chastity. Later generations honored her loyalty and named the site "Loyal Woman's Pit." The terrain of Loyal Woman's Pit is steep, with five large characters inscribed on the cliff face meaning "Loyalty and Honor Transcend the Ages." In the center of the cliff, a pathway extends down into the bay leading to Loyal Woman's Pit. Visitors can walk along the railed pathway to a viewpoint to admire the towering cliff that rises over a hundred meters above the sea, along with the protruding rocks, and are deeply moved by the bravery of that woman. On the west side of Loyal Woman's Pit is a rock known as the "Loyal Woman's Stone," named in memory of a woman who sat waiting for her husband's return. It is also one of the unique boulder landscapes of Dongyin. Note: This area is subject to strong winds and rugged terrain, so please pay attention to your personal safety.
