Hanbi Trail Introduction

The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is beside the Mei He Garden, with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers. The trail is gently winding and surrounds the waterfront of the Hanbi Peninsula, meandering through shaded trees and flowers, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. At the edge of the trail, there is a dock built for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek, with a guard station to prevent the public from approaching, which has now become a historical site. Strolling in the early morning, one can see various birds such as the multicolored bird, the mountain redhead, and the white-eyed mockingbird active among the forest. Reaching the dock by the pond, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains and waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot to gaze at the Qingshui Mountain Range and Lalu Island, where one can appreciate the geographical wonders of the legend of the Azure Dragon stealing pearls. The alignment of Lalu Island in the pond, Xuanguang Temple, Xuanzang Temple on Qingshui Mountain, and the Cien Pagoda atop Shabalan Mountain forms a "happiness connection," a place where many visitors like to make wishes. The sides of the trail are planted with fragrant flowering shrubs such as sweet osmanthus and gardenias, allowing distant views of Sun Moon Lake, where the water surface is like a mirror reflecting the misty mountain scenery, creating a picturesque landscape. The Chiang couple often walked along the Hanbi Trail to enjoy the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many well-known figures both domestically and internationally and holds an important position in modern history. For those with mobility difficulties, it is recommended to have assistance from others while using this trail, entering through the entrance of the Elders' Center (Yuchi Township Sun Moon Lake Elderly Recreation Center).
