Hanbi Trail Introduction

The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is next to the Meihe Garden, with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers. The trail is gently winding and surrounds the waterfront of Hanbi Peninsula, weaving through lush greenery, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. Along the trail, below the Hanbi Building, there is an early dock built specifically for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek, which is protected by a guard post to prevent general access and has now become a historical site. A morning stroll here offers glimpses of colorful birds like the Formosan Blue Magpie, Taiwan Barbet, and Black-faced Bunting amidst the trees. At the pier by the pond, one can enjoy stunning views of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding mountains and waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot for a distant view of the Qingshan Mountain Range and Lalu Island, where one can appreciate the geographic wonders pertaining to the legend of the Azure Dragon stealing pearls. The line of sight forms a "Happiness Connection" with Lalu Island in the pond, Xuanguang Temple and Hsuan Tsang Temple on Qingshan Mountain, and the Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Mountain, where many visitors like to make wishes for happiness. On both sides of the trail, fragrant shrubs such as osmanthus and gardenias, which were Mrs. Chiang's favorites, are planted. From the trail, one can overlook Sun Moon Lake, where the water reflects a mirror-like image of the misty mountains, creating breathtaking scenery. The Chiangs often strolled along the Hanbi Trail to admire the beautiful views of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many well-known figures from both Taiwan and abroad, playing a significant role in modern history. For those with mobility impairments, it is recommended to have assistance and enter from the entrance of the Elders' Center (Yuchi Township Sun Moon Lake Elders' Recreation Center).
