Jianjing Palace Introduction

The Land God Temple is located next to the entrance of the Zhushiyuan Ecological Research Center by the Kowloon Mouth. According to legend, when the Japanese were constructing a hydroelectric power station at Sun Moon Lake, local residents often saw a group of bright objects flying in the sky, said to be the "Dragon Baby Silver" that lived at the bottom of the lake. Disturbed by the construction, they migrated toward Puli, and this was where people first discovered the Dragon Baby Silver, hence the name "Jianjing" (which means "seeing the sparkle"). From a modern scientific perspective, it can be explained that on sunny days, sunlight reflecting on the lake surface creates shimmering sparkles, especially noticeable from the location of the Land God Temple, where one can see the sparkling water surface, thus named "Jianjing."
