Sun Moon Lake Bicycle Path - Round Lake Route Introduction

Sun Moon Lake is surrounded by a scenic biking path of approximately 30 kilometers, featuring beautiful lake and mountain views. It has been voted as one of the world’s top ten most beautiful bike trails by CNNGO, a travel lifestyle website under CNN. Starting from the Xiangshan Visitor Center and cycling clockwise around the lake, you will pass through the bustling Shuishe area, where the road is relatively flat. The terrain becomes steeper towards Wufeng Temple from Jiulongkou. Particularly from the Yunpin Hot Spring Hotel to Wufeng Temple, cycling can be quite challenging. There is a small platform in front of Wufeng Temple (beside the Jing Sheng Building) where you can take a break and enjoy the stunning views of the lake, providing a brief respite from fatigue. After a short rest, you can continue your journey, riding downhill and uphill as the breeze blows. You will pass the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway Station, where you can look up to see the gondolas moving back and forth. In winter, the beautiful pink cherry blossoms bloom here. At noon, you may choose to find food in the Ita Thao business district, savoring authentic Thao cuisine, and stock up on supplies for your journey ahead! When reaching the Cien Pagoda and Xuan Zang Temple, which are located at a higher elevation, you can take in the panoramic views of the beautiful Sun Moon Lake below. After navigating the sharp curves past the Xuanguang Temple parking area, you will ride down to Toushe; please pay attention to safety on this downhill stretch. Finally, returning to the Xiangshan Visitor Center from Toushe involves a very steep incline, classified as high-intensity. As some sections of the bike path are not yet connected, it is recommended to ride along the Lakeside Road while ensuring traffic safety.
