Bakuras Introduction
Located in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, at the upstream of the Zhuoshui River, with an elevation of approximately 530 meters, this was an old settlement of the Bunun people known as Wakr'as. In the Bunun language, Wakr'as means a flat riverbank area with abundant water sources. During the late Japanese colonial period, in order to facilitate management, the Japanese relocated the Bunun indigenous people from this area to present-day Dali and Tannan. Subsequently, Wakr'as became a sparsely populated area, and many old slate houses' ruins are still preserved, with rich ecological landscapes nearby.
