Bakolas Introduction
Located in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, at an altitude of approximately 530 meters upstream of the Zhuoshui River, it is the former settlement of the Bunun tribe known as Wakr'as. In the Bunun language, Wakr'as means a flat riverbank with abundant water sources. During the latter part of Japanese rule, the Japanese relocated the Bunun indigenous people in this area to present-day Dili and Tannan for management purposes, after which Wakr'as became a sparsely populated place. Many old slate house ruins are still preserved, and the ecological landscapes nearby are quite rich.
