Bakulas Introduction
Located in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, at the upstream of Zhuoshui River, with an elevation of about 530 meters, it was the old settlement of the Bunun tribe known as Bakuras. "Wakr’as" means a flat riverbank with abundant water sources in the Bunun language. During the late Japanese colonial period, the Japanese relocated the Bunun indigenous people from this area to present-day Jiali and Tanan for easier management, and thereafter, Bakuras became a sparsely populated area. Many ruins of old slate houses are still preserved here, and the nearby ecological landscape is quite rich.
