Donghe Walu Introduction

Waluo is located within the jurisdiction of Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, covering an area of approximately 76 square kilometers. The village boasts a rich multicultural heritage, including the Seediq people residing in the Xiangtian Lake, Dawo Mountain, Dazhuwei, Egongji, and Donghe villages. The Atayal people inhabit the Luchang, Luhu, Shibi, and Donghe villages. Hakka residents are found in Hengpingbei, Lu'ai Liao, and Donghe, totaling 347 households, with around 1,325 individuals. Near the Donghe Suspension Bridge stands a striking Japanese-style wooden building, originally constructed in 1924 as an old police station. It was abandoned after 1988 and was only revitalized in 2005 with the support of the Indigenous Peoples Council through local efforts.
