Wanshan Tribe Introduction
Wanshan Tribal Village is located along the Highway 132 in Maolin District. After about 7 kilometers from the Maolin District Office, you will reach the entrance of Wanshan Tribal Village. During the Japanese colonial period, Wanshan Village was known as "Mandaulan," and the original settlement was situated at an altitude of 1,475 meters beneath Mt. Wantoulan. It was once the most remote village in Maolin District, and the indigenous people are referred to as "Oupunphuo." The old Wanshan still retains its complete slate-roofed houses and is home to the mysterious Wanshan rock carvings known as "The Mysterious Love Story of Guhbacah." Due to the treacherous roads, the entire village was relocated to its current location in 1956. It is recommended to stay for about 30-40 minutes to explore the slate houses and the Catholic church in the lower area of the village.
