Shuizhen Engong Temple Introduction

The Shui Zhen En Gong Shrine is located on Taiwan Provincial Highway 27甲, at the 13K mark in the Liugui District. In the third year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty, Huang Xianren, originally from Haixian, Guangdong, moved to Xinyi Village and noticed that the residents in the area between Xinyi and Erpo were primarily cultivating dry fields, indicating a lack of irrigation water. Therefore, after observing the local topography, Huang rode a cow to Erpo and personally excavated a canal using tools with the help of the villagers, intending to bring water from the Laonong River to this area. With the collective effort of the villagers, they successfully constructed the canal, which brought abundant stream water to irrigate over 200 acres of land in the Xinyi area, resulting in increased food production. To express their gratitude for Huang Xianren's contributions to the area, the canal was named "Xianren Canal," and the "Shui Zhen En Gong Shrine" was built in his honor. A suggested stop duration is about 10 minutes, allowing for a simple visit.
