Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukou. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, initiated without any funds. Initially, it relied on the volunteer work of devoted believers, and gradually, a management committee was established. Nestled amidst beautiful mountains and waters, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiu Bridges in a picturesque environment. It is a must-stop rest point for visitors heading to Alishan. The temple and the bridges have become landmarks for tourists traveling through Alishan, and it is an important scenic and religious site along the way. The temple primarily worships Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Ji Gong Zen Master, who is also referred to as the Five Lords Bodhisattva since he reincarnated five times to save sentient beings. The day Master Ji Gong attained enlightenment is celebrated on the third day of the tenth lunar month, which is regarded as the Zen Master's birthday, and elaborate fire rituals are held nearly every year on this day. The primary purpose is to help alleviate disasters and misfortunes for the people and to ward off evil spirits. Due to the fire ritual performed for the deity, the divine power is even more pronounced, thus attracting many temples and a large number of believers from across the country to participate in the festivities. On regular days, believers and temples from various places can also be found along the forest paths next to the temple, which are perfect for enjoying the mountain scenery.
