Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chuku. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, without any funding, relying initially on dedicated volunteers and gradually forming a management committee. Nestled within a picturesque mountainous landscape, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiu Bridges, making it a necessary resting spot for tourists traveling to Alishan. The temple and the bridges have become significant landmarks that visitors to Alishan frequently stop by, representing important scenery and religious sites along the way. The temple primarily enshrines Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly referred to as Master Ji Gong. He is also known as the Bodhisattva of the Five Lords due to his five reincarnations aimed at saving sentient beings. Master Ji Gong's enlightenment day falls on the third day of the tenth month in the lunar calendar, celebrated as his birthday with grand fire rituals almost every year. The main purpose of these rituals is to help relieve people from disasters and remove evil spirits. The fire ceremony, which enhances the divine majesty of the deity, often attracts many temple devotees from across the country to participate in the festivities. On regular days, many devotees from various temples visit, and the forest paths adjacent to the temple are perfect for enjoying the natural beauty of the mountains.
