Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukou. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, initiated with no funding and relying initially on volunteers from devoted believers. Over time, a management committee was gradually established. Nestled amidst beautiful mountains and waters, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiou Suspension Bridges, making it a must-stop resting spot for tourists heading to Alishan. The temple and the suspension bridges have become landmarks where travelers along Alishan frequently pause, thus forming an important scenic and religious site along the Alishan route. The temple mainly venerates Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Ji Gong Zen Master, who is also referred to as the Five Lords Bodhisattva due to his reincarnations aimed at saving sentient beings. The day Ji Gong attained enlightenment is celebrated on the third day of the tenth lunar month, which is regarded as the Zen Master's birthday, and a grand fire ritual is held almost every year on this day. The main purpose of the ritual is to help beings eliminate disasters and avert misfortunes, as well as to exorcise evil spirits. The divine presence becomes even more powerful due to the fire ritual, attracting many devotees and temple organizations from across the country to participate in the festivities. On ordinary days, believers and temple organizations from various regions also visit, and the nearby forest paths are perfect for enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery.
