Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukeu. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, initiated without any funding and relying initially on the volunteers from some dedicated worshippers. Gradually, a management committee was established. Nestled amidst picturesque mountains and waters, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiou Bridges, making it a necessary rest stop for tourists heading to Alishan. The temple and the bridges have become landmarks that visitors to Alishan must visit, representing significant scenic and religious sites along the Alishan route. The temple primarily enshrines Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Ji Gong Zen Master, who is also referred to as the Five Public Bodhisattva due to his five reincarnations to save sentient beings. The day Ji Gong Zen Master achieved enlightenment is celebrated on the third day of the tenth lunar month, marked as the master's birthday, with a grand fire ceremony held almost every year. The main purpose of this ceremony is to help beings eliminate disasters and remove misfortunes, as well as to drive away evil spirits. Because of the fire ritual for the deity, the divine power is even more pronounced, attracting numerous temples and a large number of devotees from across the country to participate in the festivities. On ordinary days, many temples and worshippers visit the small forest trails next to the temple, which are perfect for enjoying the beauty of the mountains and forests.
