Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukou. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, started without any funding. Initially, it relied on some devoted believers who volunteered, and gradually a management committee was established. Nestled between mountains and rivers, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Chang Tian and Jiuhua bridges in a beautiful environment. It is a must-stop resting place for tourists visiting Alishan. Longyin Temple and the bridges have become landmarks where tourists passing through Alishan will stop, making it an important scenic and religious spot along the Alishan route. The temple primarily enshrines Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Ji Gong Zen Master, who is also referred to as the Five Lords Bodhisattva because of his five reincarnations aimed at saving sentient beings. The day Ji Gong attained enlightenment is celebrated on the third day of the tenth lunar month, which is regarded as the Zen Master's birthday. Each year, a grand fire ritual is held on this day, aimed at helping sentient beings eliminate disasters and change misfortunes, as well as warding off evil spirits. Due to the divine flames, the temple’s authority becomes even more impressive, thus attracting many temples and a large number of believers from across the country to participate in the ceremonies. On regular days, there are also believers and devotees from various temples, and the forest paths beside the temple are ideal for enjoying the beauty of the mountains and forests.
