Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukou. The construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980, even without any funding. Initially, it relied on some sincere believers volunteering their efforts, and gradually formed a management committee. Nestled in a picturesque mountainous environment, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiu Suspension Bridges, making it a necessary rest stop for visitors heading to Alishan. The temple and the suspension bridges have become landmarks where tourists are sure to stop during their journey to Alishan. Longyin Temple is an important scenic and religious site along the Alishan route. The main deity worshiped in the temple is Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly referred to as Jiko Zen Master. He is also known as Wugong Bodhisattva due to his five reincarnations for the purpose of saving sentient beings. The day when Jiko Zen Master attained enlightenment is on the third day of the tenth lunar month, celebrated as the master's birthday, with a grand fire ritual held almost every year on the festival day. The main purpose of this event is to help sentient beings eliminate disasters and avert misfortunes, as well as to exorcise evil spirits. As the deity is honored with fire during the rituals, his divine power becomes even more pronounced, thus drawing many temples and numerous believers from across the country to participate in the festival. On regular days, believers and temples from various regions visit, and the forest paths beside the temple are perfect for enjoying the tranquil mountain scenery.
