Wang's Ancestral Hall Introduction
The Wang Family Temple in Taibao City, located in the Wang Clan of Taibao, is dedicated to Wang De-Lu, who served as the Admiral of the Water Division during the Qing Dynasty, as well as his wife and the ancestral spirits of the Wang family. Wang De-Lu was born in Taibao City and was the highest-ranking Taiwanese during that period, known for his significant achievements and regarded as a pride of the people of Taibao. The residence of General Wang is at No. 540, Taibao Section, and the current Wang Family Temple was previously his residence, which was transformed into a family temple by his descendants at a cost of NT$800,000 in 1963. The structure of the Wang Family Temple is magnificent and impressive, preserving artifacts such as clothing armor, swords, daily utensils, ancestral tablets, and a few stone sculptures from the original residence, including the twelve zodiac signs, stone tables in the garden, and flagpole bases outside the entrance. Since Wang De-Lu had ten wives and concubines during his lifetime and his descendants are scattered across various places, the family is large, making the collection of cultural artifacts challenging. Therefore, the temple is unable to display many items, and most of the related relics and documents can only be presented through photographs or photocopies, including records of his military achievements, official memorials during the Qing Dynasty, and royal decrees. The temple also hangs portraits of Wang De-Lu and his wife along with some ancient couplets from the Daoguang to Xianfeng eras. Outside the family temple, there is a beautifully designed garden and a red Fujian-style courtyard. The Wang Family Temple is currently managed by its descendants, who take turns every two years, and ceremonies are held annually during Qingming Festival, Lunar New Year, and on the 21st day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar to commemorate Wang De-Lu's birthday.
