De Yuan Zen Temple Introduction
Deyuan Temple, originally named Guanyin Temple, is located to the south of Wu Feng's former residence on Qinghua Mountain in Chiayi County. It was built in the 5th year of the Qianlong era and was later renamed Deyuan Temple after being renovated by Master Yimin. According to legend, in the 5th year of the Qianlong era, there was a girl named Xing Shui who sought enlightenment and renounced the secular world. Deyuan Temple, originally known as "Qinghua Mountain Guanyin Pavilion," is situated along the roadside at the waist of Qinghua Mountain, south of Wu Feng's former residence, and can be easily reached by following the signs. This temple showcases traditional Sanheyuan architecture, with the main hall located at the center, enshrining Shakyamuni Buddha, evoking a solemn and dignified atmosphere. There are two white elephants guarding the steps leading to the main hall, while the sides of the hall feature rooms for monks and meditation. Behind the hall, there is an avocado tree planted by nuns, surrounded by lush greenery, creating a pleasant scenery. Due to its tranquil surroundings and unique architecture resembling a Sanheyuan, the front courtyard is abundantly planted with flowers. Entering the Da Xiong Bao Dian, where Shakyamuni Buddha is enshrined, the atmosphere is solemn and majestic. To the right of the protective dragon lies a grassy lawn, and in front are the Deyuan Zen Academy and Zhengyan Library, making it a popular tourist destination.
