Deyuan Zen Temple Introduction
Deyuan Zen Temple, originally named Guanyin Temple, is located south of the Wu Feng Residence at Qinghua Mountain in Chiayi County. It was built in the 5th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty and was renamed Deyuan Zen Temple after being renovated by Master Yimin. According to legend, in the 5th year of the Qianlong reign, a girl named Xing Shui attained enlightenment and sought to escape the mundane world. Deyuan Zen Temple, originally known as Qinghua Mountain Guanyin Pavilion, is situated at the waist of Qinghua Mountain, along the roadside south of Wu Feng Residence and is accessible by following the signs. The temple features traditional Sanhe courtyard architecture, with the main hall centrally located, enshrining Sakyamuni Buddha, which is solemn and dignified. Two white elephants guard the steps leading to the main hall, with auxiliary rooms and meditation rooms on either side. Behind the hall, there is an avocado tree planted by a female monk, surrounded by lush greenery, creating a pleasant scenery. Due to its serene scenery and uniquely designed Sanhe courtyard, with a front courtyard planted with flowers, visitors are welcomed into the Great Hero Hall, where Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined with a solemn and dignified presence. On the right side, adjacent to the protective dragon, is a green lawn, and in front are the Deyuan Zen Academy and Zhengyan Library, making it a popular tourist destination.
