Holy Grace Temple Introduction
Inside Sheng'en Temple in Taibao City, Chiayi County, the Guanyin Bodhisattva from Putuo Mountain, Zhejiang Province, is enshrined. According to legend, the management committee of Sheng'en Temple was instructed by the Three Bodhisattvas to travel three times to Putuo Mountain between 1989 and 1991 to welcome the Bodhisattva to the temple for protection. The followers of Sheng'en Temple are spread across the globe; even Mr. Mori Masaru from Japan and Dr. Kuo Wen-Hsiung from Hawaii make it a point to pay their respects at the temple each time they visit Taiwan. In 1987, Sheng'en Temple built the Boromir Lecture Hall on the right side of the temple to promote Buddhist teachings. Every detail inside, from the plants to the bricks and tiles, including wall decorations and floor patterns, is said to have been conceived through instructions from the Bodhisattva. From 1995, the temple successively renovated the Nine Petal Lotus Gate and the Sutra Repository of the Boromir Lecture Hall. The construction of the Boromir Lecture Hall was completed in June of that year, and the Sutra Repository was officially completed in 2000. The environment of Sheng'en Temple is beautiful, solemn, and dignified, featuring the Eight Trigrams Gate, Lotus Pond, Sun and Moon Pavilion, Boromir Lecture Hall, Yuantong Building, and North-South Polar Gate, each filled with ingenuity and creativity, distinctly different from other temples' architectural styles. On the first and fifteenth of every month, the Sheng'en Temple's Good Fortune Association holds lectures for the faithful, and on September 19 each year, a National Protection and Peace Ritual and Universal Salvation Ceremony are held.
