Dapeng Bay International Recreational Area Introduction

Dapeng Bay was a military seaplane base during the Japanese occupation, marking the historical footprint of the Kamikaze pilots. Throughout different eras, it has been known by various names such as Biexing Port, Nanping Port, and Datan, each with its unique significance leading up to the final name of Dapeng Bay. Since the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Bureau entrusted the management of Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area to the private sector in 2004, the Dapeng Bay International Development Co., Ltd. has been responsible for the overall development. The development scope is collectively referred to as the Dapeng Bay International Leisure Zone, based on the characteristics and vision of Dapeng Bay. With abundant natural resources and a rich historical and cultural background, the development plan encompasses three major themes of recreation involving land, sea, and air. Dapeng Bay boasts expansive land, the best marine base in Taiwan, and an aerial activity area, making it a unique and beautiful spot in Taiwan. The park currently includes diversified tourism resources and experiential activities, such as the country's first legal ultralight aircraft flight club, offering visitors experiences in ultralight flight, short-term training, and examination preparation, now approved by the Civil Aeronautics Administration for point-to-point flights. The ultralight flight experience is not limited to Dapeng Bay's airspace but also extends to the Pingtung Saijia Aviation Park. The north-south flight route is approximately 40 kilometers long, allowing aerial enthusiasts to fully enjoy the stunning landscapes of mountains and countryside. The leisure zone also features a cycling center around the bay, providing bike rentals for a scenic ride along the 12-kilometer bicycle path, as well as various exciting water activities including eco-tourism on the lake, kayaking, windsurfing, and rowing. The Dapeng Bay International Development Company anticipates a total investment exceeding NT$10.34 billion, with a development area of over 257 hectares, to be carried out in phases. The first phase involves an investment of over NT$2 billion and is currently under construction, including Taiwan's first international G2 racetrack, a go-kart track, international hotels, themed shopping streets, group camping areas, and cultural history museums. More firsts for Taiwan will be presented in Dapeng Bay.
