Zheng Chenggong's Military Observation and Chess Playing Site Introduction
About 1.3 kilometers upward from the Yu Zhang Road Archway, you can reach the Zheng Chenggong Viewing and Chess Playing Place. This is where Zheng Chenggong and his staff would strategize during wartime and engage in chess for leisure during the late Ming dynasty. There is a natural cave at the site, which originally had ancient tables and chairs carved with chessboards, but they have all collapsed. What you see now has been restored by the Taiwan military later on. The platform next to the cave offers a high vantage point, where you can clearly see the scenery of Mainland China across the water, including the outline of the western part of Kinmen Island and its intricate pathways. Indeed, the Prince of Yanping had a unique perspective here.
