Zheng Chenggong Military Observation and Chess Playing Site Introduction
About 1.3 kilometers up from the Yuzhang Archway is the Zheng Chenggong Observation and Chess Playing Place. This is where Zheng Chenggong and his advisors strategized during battles and played chess for leisure during the late Ming Dynasty. There is a natural rock cave at the site, which originally housed ancient tables and chairs engraved with a chessboard, but they have since collapsed. What can be seen now is a later restoration by the Taiwanese military. The platform next to the cave offers a panoramic view, allowing one to point out the scenery of the mainland across the strait, and the outline and intricate paths of the western part of Kinmen Island are also clearly visible. It is indeed a place where the Duke of Yanping, Zheng Chenggong, could see far and wide.
