Meiyuan Introduction
Located in the Taiwu Mountain area, about 200 meters up from the Observation Pavilion, you will reach the iconic monument of Kinmen, "Never Forget the Struggle," inscribed on a stone. This monument, known for its fame, serves as a popular backdrop for tourists to take photos. Standing over ten meters tall and perched on a cliff, it was commissioned by Chiang Kai-shek, the former leader of Taiwan, in 1952 during his visit to Kinmen, reflecting the importance of Kinmen as a frontline defense. On both sides of the monument, there are resting pavilions and a plum garden, the latter established as a memorial grove in remembrance of Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo. Unfortunately, the plum trees have not thrived well, leaving Mr. Chiang's inscription as the most notable feature. Additionally, places such as the Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall in Chung Shan Forest, Zhu Mountain, and the Mazu Temple in Kinmen still bear plum trees that were planted by military personnel and civilians in earlier years!
