Taiwu Mountain Scenic Area Introduction
Taiwu Mountain is located in the central part of Kinmen Island. Although it has an elevation of only 253 meters, it is the highest mountain in Kinmen. Taiwu Mountain is an important memorial site of the 823 Artillery Battle. In addition to the opportunity for panoramic views and hiking, the mountain is rich in cultural landmarks, such as Wufang Zai Ju and Haiyin Temple, which are characteristic attractions of Kinmen. There are four routes to ascend Taiwu Mountain: the Front Mountain, the Back Mountain, the Caicuo Ancient Road, and the Doumen Ancient Road. The Front Mountain refers to the Yu Zhang entrance located to the north of the Taiwu Mountain Cemetery, while the Back Mountain is at the end of Yu Zhang Road next to the Pingtung Wenkang Center. Most people ascend the mountain from the flat and easy Front Mountain Yu Zhang entrance, while the Doumen and Caicuo Ancient Roads are steeper and more challenging. The round trip to Taiwu Mountain takes about 2 hours, but considering the historical sites and scenery along the way, it is recommended to plan for half a day. The Twelve Wonders of Taiwu Mountain include the Zhanyang Pool, Crab Eye Spring, Sleep Cloud Stone, Crossing Ao Stone, Reflection Tower, Jade Table, Ancient Stone Room, Stone Gate, Qianzhang Wall, Yanjian Pavilion, Yin Gai Pine, and Cloud Step Ladder. During the Ming Dynasty, the cultural atmosphere in Kinmen was thriving, and the literary figures of that time were often drawn to ascend Taiwu Mountain, which contributed to the fame of the Twelve Wonders of Taiwu Mountain. The Yanfeng Junwang Observation Point is the best vantage spot on the whole of Kinmen Island.
