Taitung Mountain Scenic Area Introduction

Taiwu Mountain is located in the center of Kinmen Island. Although it stands only 253 meters high, it is the tallest mountain in Kinmen. Taiwu Mountain is an important memorial site of the Battle of Kuningtou (823 Counteroffensive), and offers scenic views and hiking opportunities. The mountain is also rich in cultural landmarks, such as the "Don't Forget in Ju" monument and Haiyin Temple, which are unique attractions in Kinmen. There are four trails for ascending Taiwu Mountain: the Front Mountain, the Back Mountain, the Cai-Cuo Ancient Path, and the Doumen Ancient Path. The Front Mountain refers to the Yu-Chang entrance on the north side of the Taiwu Mountain Cemetery, while the Back Mountain is at the end of Yu-Chang Road, next to the Pingtung Cultural Center. Most people take the flat and easy Front Mountain path. The Doumen and Cai-Cuo Ancient Paths are steeper and offer a greater challenge. The round trip to Taiwu Mountain takes about 2 hours, but considering the historical sites and scenery along the way, it is recommended to plan for half a day. The twelve wonders of Taiwu Mountain refer to the ZhanYue Pond, Crab Eye Spring, Sleeping Cloud Rock, Cross Ao Rock, Reflection Tower, Jade Table, Ancient Stone Room, Stone Gate, Thousand Zhang Wall, Yilan Pavilion, Yanggai Pine, and Cloud Walking Ladder. During the Ming Dynasty, Kinmen's literary culture flourished, and scholars would often ascend Taiwu Mountain, which led to the fame of its twelve wonders. The Yanping Prince's Observation Chess Place offers the best panoramic view on Kinmen Island.
