Taiwu Mountain Scenic Area Introduction

Taiwu Mountain is located in the center of Kinmen Island. Although its elevation is only 253 meters, it is the highest mountain in Kinmen. Taiwu Mountain is an important memorial site of the 823 Artillery Battle. In addition to the opportunities for panoramic views and hiking, the mountain is rich in cultural landmarks, such as the "Do Not Forget at Jue" monument and Haiyin Temple, which are distinctive attractions of Kinmen. There are four routes to ascend Taiwu Mountain: the Front Mountain, the Back Mountain, the Caicuo Ancient Trail, and the Doumen Ancient Trail. The Front Mountain refers to the Yuzhang intersection on the north side of the Taiwu Mountain Cemetery, while the Back Mountain is at the end of Yuzhang Road next to the Pingtung Wenkang Center. Most people access the mountain from the more accessible and flat Front Mountain Yuzhang intersection, while the Doumen and Caicuo Ancient Trails are steeper and more challenging. The round-trip journey to Taiwu Mountain takes about 2 hours, but considering the historical sites and scenery along the way, it is recommended to plan for half a day. The Twelve Wonders of Taiwu Mountain refer to the Zhan Yue Pool, Crab Eye Spring, Sleeping Cloud Rock, Cross Ao Rock, Reflection Pagoda, Jade Table, Ancient Stone Chamber, Stone Gate, Thousand Zhang Wall, One View Pavilion, Yanda Pine, and Step Cloud Ladder. During the Ming Dynasty, the literary culture of Kinmen flourished, and the scholarly elite often climbed Taiwu Mountain, making the Twelve Wonders of Taiwu Mountain widely known. The Yanping Junwang Observation and Chess Playing Place is the best vantage point on the entire Kinmen Island.
