Caiwei Old Trail Introduction
Cai Cuo Old Trail, located on the northern slope of Mount Taiwu, starts from the back entrance of Cai Cuo Village. It is an ancient hiking path paved with natural rock stairs, and due to the abundance of stone steps, the locals also refer to it as "One Hundred and Two Steps." In the early days, Cai Cuo Old Trail served as a shortcut from Shamei to the mountain, where the ancestors of Kinmen would carry salt and tofu across the mountain top to sell on the other side, thus forming a genuine salt and tofu trail. On the old trail, the Wuzhou Zhuang built a fort and constructed a stone inscription commemorating the history, known as the Yuan Stele, which further proves the historical significance of Kinmen as a salt-producing area. Travelers can step on the large and small stone stairs that have witnessed the passage of time, with attractions along the way including the Yuan Stele, Xiaozhu Fortress, Lover's Bridge, Monk's Rock, and Yuanlu Lake. The trail is mostly shaded by trees, making it quite cool to walk during the spring and autumn seasons. There are sections that require the use of both hands and feet, but upon reaching the summit, there is an observation deck for resting, offering a spectacular view of the mountains and sea.
