Cai Cuo Historic Trail Introduction
Cai Tso Ancient Trail is located on the northern slope of Mount Taiwu, ascending from the back entrance of Cai Tso Village. It is a historic hiking path characterized by natural stone steps; due to the numerous stone steps, locals also refer to it as the "One Hundred and Two Steps." In the early days, the Cai Tso Ancient Trail was a shortcut from Shamei to the outside of the mountain. The ancestors of Kinmen would carry salt and tofu over the mountain to sell on the other side, forming an authentic salt and tofu route. The memorial tablet at Wuzhou Port along the ancient trail, known as the Yuan Tablet, further evidences the historical significance and value of Kinmen as a salt production area. Travelers who tread on the ancient stone steps, both large and small, will encounter sights such as the Yuan Tablet, Xiao Zhu Fort, Lover's Bridge, Monk Rock, and Yuanlu Lake. The trail is mostly situated in shaded forest areas, providing a pleasant experience during spring and autumn. There are sections where both hands and feet are needed to navigate, but once at the top, there is an observation platform for resting and enjoying the stunning panoramic views of the mountains and the sea.
