Cai Tso Ancient Trail Introduction
The Caicuo Old Trail, located on the northern slope of Mount Taiwu, begins at the hiking entrance of Caicuo Village. This historically significant mountain trail is paved with natural rock steps, and due to the abundance of stone steps, it is also referred to by locals as "the 120 steps." In earlier times, the Caicuo Old Trail served as a shortcut from Shamee to outside the mountain, where ancestors of Kinmen would carry salt and tofu over the mountain peak for sale on the other side. It thus formed a genuine salt and tofu route. The monument on Wuzhou Platform, which records the construction of the fort and road, is known as the Yuan Monument, further proving Kinmen's historical significance as a salt field. Travelers who step on the worn large and small stone steps can visit landmarks such as the Yuan Monument, Little Pillar Fortress, Lover's Bridge, Monk Stone, and Yuanlu Lake along the way. The path is mostly shaded by trees and is quite cool to walk in the spring and autumn. There are areas requiring both hands and feet, but once at the top of the mountain, there is an observation deck for resting and enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains and sea.
