Cai Cuo Old Trail Introduction
Cai-Cuo Old Trail is located on the northern foothills of Mount Taiwu, starting from the back mountain entrance of Cai-Cuo Village. It is a historically rich hiking path made up of natural rock steps, and due to the numerous stone steps, it is colloquially known as "One Hundred and Two Steps" by the locals. In the past, the Cai-Cuo Old Trail served as a shortcut from Shamen to the outside of the mountain. The ancestors of Kinmen used to carry salt and tofu over the mountain top to sell on the other side, forming a true salt and tofu trail. The stone tablet at Wuzhou Market, known as Yuan Tablet, further confirms Kinmen's historical significance as a salt production area. As travelers step onto the large and small stone steps that have weathered the passage of time, they can visit attractions along the way such as Yuan Tablet, Small Pillar Fort, Lover's Bridge, Monk Rock, and Yuanlu Lake. The trail is mostly shaded by trees, making it quite cool in spring and autumn. There are areas that require both hands and feet, but once reaching the top, there is an observation platform to rest while enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains and the sea.
