Victory Gate Introduction

The Victory Gate is a striking white round-arch building located at the intersection of Xiakeng Village Road in Little Kinmen, serving as an important visual landmark for visitors in Lieyu. This memorial gate was originally the site of the "823 War Memorial," shaped like a shell, commemorating the fierce attacks with over 260,000 shells faced by the National Armed Forces during the 1958 823 Artillery Battle. It honors their determination to hold their ground and fight bravely, ultimately winning a glorious victory. Today, the Victory Gate not only symbolizes Little Kinmen's unwavering spirit amid the turmoil of war but also reminds the world of the important role this small island played in defending the Taiwan Strait. The arch's simple and solemn design, represented in white, signifies peace and has become a must-visit photo point for many travelers stepping onto Little Kinmen.
