Mausoleum of the 823 Artillery Battle Victory Introduction
The "823 Artillery Battle Victory Monument," located at the entrance of Huxia Village in Little Kinmen, is an important landmark symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the frontline military and civilians. The monument itself is a giant shell painted in green and white military camouflage, standing tall on a circular base. The shell is inscribed with the golden words "823 Artillery Battle Victory Monument," and the center of the base is adorned with the Blue Sky with a White Sun emblem, showcasing the faith and honor of steadfast guardianship. This monument was built to commemorate the "823 Artillery Battle" in 1958. During that year, the People's Liberation Army of China fired over 470,000 shells at Kinmen and Little Kinmen in an attempt to capture the islands, which almost turned Little Kinmen into ruins. However, in this fierce battle, the local military and civilians, with their resilient will and spirit of unity in resistance, defended this land and wrote a crucial chapter in the military history of the Taiwan Strait. Today, the monument is not only a witness to history but also a spiritual fortress for the people of Little Kinmen in facing challenges and upholding their beliefs. Standing before the monument, one can still feel the thrilling and unyielding spirit amidst the artillery fire of those years, making it an essential attraction not to be missed when visiting Little Kinmen.
