823 War Victory Memorial Introduction
Departing from Jiugong Pier and crossing over a slope, you will soon come across a large rainbow-shaped gate known as Victory Gate, which spans the entrance to Lake Xia Village. Standing on a round pedestal in front of the gate is a giant shell painted in green and white, adorned with golden letters that read "Monument of Victory in the 823 Bombardment." The circular pedestal also features a depiction of the blue sky and white sun, representing the local spirit. In 1958, during the Battle of 823, the People's Liberation Army of China launched over 470,000 artillery shells in an attempt to capture Kinmen and Little Kinmen. At that time, Little Kinmen was heavily bombarded, yet the military and civilians displayed unwavering spirit in enduring the harsh trials, allowing this monument to shine with infinite brilliance. Behind the monument, the Victory Gate stands over 10 meters tall, with three large red characters inscribed as "Victory Gate." Like a long rainbow arching across the road, a sentry stands beneath it, providing an immediate feeling of the front-line battlefield atmosphere as one steps onto Little Kinmen, instilling a sense of marching towards victory.
