Dasi Old Tea Factory Introduction
Built in 1926 and covering an area of 1,670 ping, the Daxi Old Tea Factory, formerly known as "Jiao Ban Mountain Factory," is hidden in a tranquil alleyway. It is a green building that combines Taiwanese, Japanese, and British architectural styles, with a low-key and fresh appearance that has remained charming for nearly a century. During the peak years of Taiwanese tea production, when exports to Europe and America reached their zenith, tea was regarded as "black gold." The old tea factory operated three shifts a day, with machines running day and night, producing up to 600 tons of Nitto Black Tea annually. Unfortunately, a major fire in 1956 nearly destroyed the factory. Luckily, when former President Chiang Kai-shek traveled to the Jiao Ban Mountain Villa, he noticed the absence of the familiar tea factory along the way. After inquiring about the situation, he ordered military engineers to assist in the reconstruction, allowing this precious historical heritage to be preserved to this day.
