Daxi Old Tea Factory Introduction
Established in 1926, the Daxi Old Tea Factory, formerly known as "Jiao Ban Mountain Factory," occupies an area of 1,670 ping. Tucked away in a serene alley, it is a green building that combines Taiwanese, Japanese, and British styles, maintaining its low-key freshness for nearly a century. During the peak of Taiwan's tea export to Europe and the United States, regarded as "black gold," the old tea factory operated in three shifts around the clock, producing as much as 600 tons of Nippon Black Tea annually. Unfortunately, a devastating fire in 1956 almost destroyed the factory. Fortunately, when President Chiang Kai-shek traveled to the Jiao Ban Mountain Villa and noticed the absence of the familiar tea factory, he inquired about the situation and ordered military engineers to assist in the reconstruction, which allowed this precious historical heritage to be preserved until today.
