Daxi Old Tea Factory Introduction
Built in 1926 and covering an area of 1,670 ping, the Daxi Old Tea Factory, formerly known as the Jiao Ban Mountain Factory, is tucked away in a quiet alley. It is a green building that combines Taiwanese, Japanese, and English styles, exuding a low-key freshness that has remained charming for nearly a century. During the peak period of Taiwanese tea export to Europe and America, the tea was revered as "black gold." The old tea factory operated on a three-shift system, with machines running day and night, producing as much as 600 tons of Nikko black tea annually. Unfortunately, in 1956, a major fire nearly reduced the factory to ashes. Fortunately, in the same year, when former President Chiang Kai-shek passed by the Jiao Ban Mountain villa and noted the absence of the familiar factory, he inquired about the situation and ordered the engineers to assist in rebuilding, which allowed this precious historical heritage to be preserved to this day.
