Daxi Old Tea Factory Introduction
Built in 1926, the Daxi Old Teahouse, formerly known as the Jiao Ban Mountain Factory, covers an area of 1,670 ping. Nestled in a tranquil alley, it is a green building that blends Taiwanese, Japanese, and English styles, remaining modest and fresh, with its charm intact for nearly a century. During the peak era of Taiwan's tea industry, when exports to Europe and America reached their zenith, tea was hailed as "black gold." The old teahouse operated on a three-shift system, with machines running day and night, producing as much as 600 tons of Nippon Red Tea annually. Unfortunately, a major fire in 1956 nearly destroyed the tea factory. Fortunately, President Chiang Kai-shek, on his way to the Jiao Ban Mountain Villa, noticed the familiar tea factory was missing. After inquiring about the situation, he ordered construction troops to assist in the rebuilding, allowing this valuable piece of historical heritage to survive to this day.
